Yeah, let's just say I've never read a post from any disappointed R1 owners who wish they would have waited for an R2. ;)

well they're not disappointed because of optimus issues I assume

I'll be honest though having a manual switch to use the high-end graphics would be much more convenient to me

they are comparing OC SU7300 to non OC i5... with OC on CPU I get 7k 3dmark06 scores at stock GPU... with GPU + CPU OC I get 8k.

    The i3 and i5 processors with hyper-threading, turbo-boost (i5) and over-clocking are better than the M11x SU7300 with only over-clocking.

Optimus will get better over time.

The M11x SU7300 may preform on a par with the i3/i5 on a few games due to GPU bandwidth and the complexities of core i processors switching from one mode to another.

That aside the i3/i5 would be the better buy going forward.

I have an M11x SU7300 and if I was any more jealous, I'd yawn. ;)

According to that link, the i5 beats the su7300 in every test slightly while the i7 beats them both. Where exactly did you figure out that it doesn't ?

"On the other hand, the Core i5-520UM's gaming performance has slightly decreased in comparison to the (overclocked) Core 2 Duo SU7300."

@all - i5 vs su7300 or 4100 comparison... I think the comparison is only fair if you have several comparisons... (not including I7, only I3 and I5)

Stock Vs Stock (su's are faster) (no turbo enabled for I series)
Stock vs Stock (Turbo enabled) (I series are faster)
OC vs OC (Turbo Disabled) Su are faster
OC vs OC (Turbo + FSB OC) I series are faster

So once again a review where full disclosure would have been helpful rather than just blurping opinions, thanks notebookcheck... Both the I5 and SU series are capable gaming platforms. The potential for overall speed is greater with the I5. (notice I leave graphics completely out of this assessment).

The Su7300 performs excellently for me in every game I've played. I've played Mass Effect, Crysis, Call of Duty, etc and have never had a performance issue on my M11xR1. I'm very happy with the performance.

The R1 also seems to beat the R2 on battery life, price, heat emissions and even noise...

I dunno, right now the only advantage the R2 seems to have is "in the future", but when? 6 months? A year? By then, surely there will be an R3.

I'm Ok with my R2 i7, but every test seems to confirm the R1 was close to perfect.

here is a comparison chart for GT 335M on M11x R1 & R2 (go down):

    Notebookcheck: NVIDIA GeForce GT 335M

    Intel Core i5 520UM 1.1GHz VS Intel Core 2 Duo SU7300 @1.6GHz

As you might see in most cases OC-SU7300 is better but I assume even if you overclock the i5 CPU the differences are not noticeable (probably around 5fps+-), for a real difference i7 is a better option.

As am I. I won't be replacing this bad boy till late 2011 or early-mid 2012 when it gets a Dx11 GPU. Not that I could afford to get the R2, but there is no reason for me to anyways.

i7 may show more of a difference but I have my cpu overclocked and it doesn't really heat up too much even in gaming and I've never had an over clocking problem, bsod et al. I would worry about the heat of an i7 which is why I chose the SU7300.

I live in Sweden and have just ordered my M11x R2. The fun thing about it is that here in Sweden if you choose to order the R1 you can just have 2 gb of ram memory and a 320 gb harddrive when you customize it. So that's what made me choose the i5 instead of the su7300. I know that i could have bought the su7300 and just added 2 gigs of ram and replaced the hard drive, but felt that I didn't want to, as that would bring the price to about the same as the i5 setup i ordered. And I believe (hope you don't hate on me for this ;P) that the i5 with overclocking and turbo is better then the su7300.

    Have a good day!

    Here are the specs: M11x R2 Soft Touch - Stealth Black, 4 096 mb 800 mhz DDR3 ram, Intel i5 520UM (3m cache 1.06 ghz) 1 GB GDDR3 Nvidia GeForce GT 335M, 500 GB harddrive (7 200 rpm)

PS. I must be stupid, I can't find the option to write my own signature, help anyone? :) DS.
