    Talking about price here.

For 1200 bucks I can get a base m14x with i7 2630 and 555 graphics WITH internal disc drive or the i7 m11x low voltage cpu with 540 graphics and no disc drive.

What am I missing here? How does alienware sell any i7 m11x's? The only disadvantages I can think of are less portability and battery life on the m14x. Other than that, it seems like I'm getting a lot more horsepower and a bigger screen (albeit same resolution 1366 x 768)

You just answered your own question.

Looks like you need the M14x more because of the added horsepower and screen size.

Kinda like comparing if you want a Hot Latina for 1,000 or a Hot Blonde for 1,200 but the Blonde is a midget and latina has nicer legs. If you dig latina more then go latina, if blonde then go blonde. Same logic with m11x or m14x, do you need longer battery life and lighter/portable or do you need more power with bigger screen but heavier?

Price is not the one that should decide here, should be what you need and what you want.

I found that I got a maxed out m11x for 1100 and thought that I would have to live without a disc drive - which I never use, I was not satisfied with the base model m14 and after upgrade, blew the 1200 price away.

Also, not a decision point for me, but the near 2 pounds difference made me more excited about the m11 as I am so freaking tired of totting my Studio 17 around... stupid heavy.

Anyways, you cant go wrong with either machine I really liked the streaming HD of the m14... wish that was a m11x option!!

I would still stick with the 11x given the choice. The size was the decision breaker for me. If I was going for a 14inch laptop I'd go from something outside of alienware. The whole idea on this laptop is its form factor.

Sounds like the M14x would suit you better.. don't bother with the M11x unless portability is an issue. For an extra $60 you can upgrade the M14x's monitor to 1600x900.

The m14x also has a MUCH better GPU, at least if you get the 3GB version. The 555m in that version has 144 CUDA cores instead of 96 AND a 196bit memory interface. It is projected to be at least 50-60% faster than the 540m.

Plus, you get 3inches more screen for just 5cm more width to the base and practically the same depth.

Unless you need a tiny gamer theres no reason to buy an m11x. You can get more for your buck with anything other then a mac.

It really depends what you need. m11x trumps the m14x as far as portability and cost. I was torn between that and the m14x, but it was a lot cheaper to max out the m11 r3 (aside from the SSD which I'm ordering from Newegg).

Also, maybe this superfluous, but I feel like since this is the 3rd revision of the m11, the major kinks have been worked out, plus I already know what to expect as far as some of the downsides some complain about, such as screen size and glare.. but the m14 is brand new. You know what they say, about the devil you know...? I may consider a m14x r2 though.

What do you want to game on, myself I only use my MX11 when traveling or just need something to take notes or surf on. My desk top is what I play on and would never use a laptop no matter how big as my main gaming rig.

Imagine how much will cost an IPhone with the size of a watch??

That is why the m11x costs almost the same. Because it is unique, it is the best in 11 - 12 inches market, and it is also more powerful that some 14 inches laptops...

But, in general m14x is the best choice...

The M11x sacrifies performance for small saize and battery life.
    Long story short:
Gonna be on the move with something that has a small size and decent battery? M11x

Need something that isn't too big but has plenty of horse power under the hood? M14x

If you already have an m11x then you will not be happy with the m14x because it is big.
Also, at the price you mention you will have that huge screen with only 1366 resultion and you will have a dvd or blueray you hardly evr use yet you will carry it around all the time. Battry may also suffer.

I personally cannot get anything larger than the m11x.

At my job I work on a Lenovo T61. Compared the size specs for my work laptop and the m14x. The m14x is bigger by approx 25%.

    I couldnt do it.

Lastly, you know there is always a premium to be paid for smaller size.

Very well said! The disadvantages of the M14x to me, outweigh the advantages. The fact that it is the first in its series is wonderful but also dangerous.

As a general rule, anything manufactured goes through a series of revisions. While most of the time the revisions are minor, they are done for two main reasons. Sadly, the first reason is to make it cheaper to produce the product. Secondly, it is to work out any quality issues that might have been seen or experienced with the first.

This can translate into a few different scenarios, but for the most part it means a more bug free version 2 product. Though you do sometimes find overall tactile quality might be a bit lower.

Honestly, I wish they would have included a 12" screen with the M11x because the bezel is incredibly large when compared to the actual screen size. I assume this is because the larger LCD would have eaten more battery life but is actually the only complaint I have. My R2 feels like a tank though remains quite portable.

I think the buyers of m14x will be the guinea test pigs. But that's ok because impulse buying is exciting and I can't blame them because I myself considered getting the m14x also.

I think more could easily be added to this topic once people actually start getting theirs. Honestly I think this product is just so amazing people are freaking out over it

Im going to wait for a review (probably from ChillaFrilla, CNET's sucked and I'm more of a video review guy in terms of laptopmags)
    and gameplay videos

Gameplay videos will tell us just about everything we need to know. Now we just wait for a guy with a camera to show us crysis maxed on his new m14x.

I'm pretty sure some of these reviewers don't even have an M11X-R3 and are just creating false reviews.

For example, I was reading one before work today and it mentioned the R3 has a battery life of 4.5 hours lightly surfing with wifi/documents, which is false. In actuality, it has a battery life of 10 hours. Other "tests" showed the R3 with no wifi at 12-13 hours and with wifi/heavy surfing 8.5 hours.

The information is so conflicting that it's hard to believe what's real and what's not. I'd believe someone on the NBR forums over these "reviewers" anyday of the week.

    HI

I have just taken delivery of one of these r3 machines. its equipeped with a 320 gb hard drive geforce 540m gt 1.5gb video memory 4gb of ram and there were two processor options. i took the i7 2617 cpu.currently im outside and i have 4.5 hours of use with wifi on and the keyboard not lit up and the screen pretty low.

games wise i have so far installed battlefield 2 which runs brilliantly warcraft. again running very well. crisis i have played at medium settings and noticed no slowdown. ill try it now atmax settings and see how it looks.

overall though i am happy with the machine although already i seemed to have a problem witht he charging lead in that yesterday it wouldnt charge the machine. however today its fine so i dunno whats up there.

ill check back later and am happy to asnwer any questions anyone might have regarding the machine.
