hey all lately i have been having a slew of problems with my r1, first it started with my HDMI out sound not working right, then my OC's started crashing on me (even thought they worked fine for weeks) causing me to have to scale back ALOT. Now games are crashing on me and twice this week i have gotten messages saying that "your computer has malfunctioned please reboot." i mean this is ridiculous my 3 year old crappy Acer is still holding up better than my 4 month old alienware. Any insight would be helpful, thanks for listening to my rant.

What I am thinking of doing is just completely wiping my HDD and starting again. Not entirely sure this will fix these issues, but I am hoping. -
As for the HDMI sound problem. That happens to me as well. I figured out that at least for me the sound wasn't working because I would have something with sound already be playing THEN I would plug it in and the sound wouldnt transfer from my notebook speakers to the TV speakers. If I just unplug it and plug it back in without any sound playing it works perfect. Maybe that can help you?
As for the overclocking. Dell doesnt guarantee any overclocking support nor can anyone else here guarantee that on these forums. I mean no silicon is the same so its impossible to guarantee. If you've overclocked before and its been stable I have no idea why it would stop being able to be overclocked since my experience with overclocking a notebook GPU is limited as I rarely overclock anything on my notebook because usually it arises problems with heat and lesser life span of the card. -
well for me it's a dead battery, SD card reader has failed, broken screen now replaced, and the switching has never been problem free. Now I run discrete and every time I get beep error codes on bootup, then normally the second time it finds the video card and all is good.
So yes would I buy the R3 - probably not !!!!! -
You should all sell me your broken r1s

I have that same problem with the sound. I simply just unplug the hdmi cable and plug it back in then sound comes back. It also happens to me when i'm on my ps3 so maybe it could be a bad hdmi cable? As for overclocking maybe you should lower your settings. I don't know if guys do the same thing but my gpu OC settings varies depending on which game i'm playing.

Thanks I'll try that. Any insight on the "your computer has malfunctioned please reboot." problem?
