Just got my m11x r2 refurb today and so far im really loving it, But how do i know what card running nvidia or intel ?

Right now im on battery which im on balance mode and it seems like the nvidia might be running always because im getting under 4hours when im on wifi and with the screen on almost down, And the fan comes on alot which i think the nvidia card is always on or keep coming on.

Is there a way i could make the intel card stay active? Discharge rate is also 17 too 18000mw on battery bar.

    Thanks :)

If the Nvidia card was on it would be using a lot more than 17-18mw. You can, however, go to the Nvidia Control Panel > View and check "Display GPU Activity Icon in Notification Area" to tell whether it's being used or not.

However, 17-18k mW is also way too high for just the NV card. So, definitely check to see if anything is using it by what kfruit recommended.

hmm with Display GPU Activity Icon it says its not running anything.. Too make sure i tried a game and it said nvidia card is running it, I just dont get what is taking all the battery up when its ony using intel and im ony running wifi and with the screen on the lowest and all the lights are also off.

Switch down into Powersaver for the best life.
Battery bar reports my power saver mode while surfing the web at 9 to 11 W

R2? The absolute most I can get consistently is 11w and that's with Wifi Off, dimmest screen, all lights off, power saver mode and no mouse, no music; just using Word.

I suggest you make sure BlueTooth is off. Using a mouse can also drain the power, go to power saver mode and make sure everything is the lowest it can be. Don't expect anything lower then 14w when watching videos /w sound (at least from my experience), which is ~4 1/2 hours.

Tried power save and still isn't going under 18 17w...

Maybe i need too do some tweaking because this is stock everything which i haven't touch pretty much anything except update drivers.

Yep Bluetooth and stuff is off which didn't came with the laptop anyways.

8gb of ram wouldn't cause this would it? Even tho i would think it would give better battery life because it makes stuff run smoother and doesn't accessed the hdd always.

Should just reinstall your laptop if you have the time. It helped get my power consuming down a lot.

Ya was thinking of doing that, Do i use the cd it came with too reinstall? Theres also a recovery partition but not sure how too use that.

Just uninstalled macfee and the discharge rate drop down too mostly 12 too 10 now and i just checked nvidia control panel and saw the display adapter was mostly set default on the nvidia so i put that on the intel and sometimes i see 8mw too 9mw now :)

Will have too test the battery life when i fully charge it back up tho too see if i get over 4hours.

No the CD if I am correct restores a factory state. Try these LEGAL Windows 7 downloads...
    Legal Windows 7 Download Guide - codesagar.com

The site includes a guide as well that tells you 2 different processes to install.. one with CD/DVD the other as a bootable USB

Mind you keep the product key safe underneath your notebook. A lot of people forget about that key and it can be used on any other activation as long as its consistent with its OS type

If you do reinstall, just use the dvd that came with the M11x. It isn't a factory restore disc, it is a Windows 7 installation dvd without Alienware software and backgrounds. You do not have to input the Windows 7 key when using the dvd that came with the laptop.
