Easy fix - same issue as mine, just to confirm if you press the W or Q keys does it get worse????
If so then the fan is rubbing on the inside base, it's easy to fix but first do you have a warranty??? -
actaully no it dosnt get worse with the keys.... and yes i do have warranty however i bought it from usa over the holidays.. but i am from australia.. would it work?
-
My fan goes into overdrive, when its been overclocked, throttlestop and MSI afterburner for gaming. However, goes back to normal when the above are turned off. Is the machine overclocked in the BIOS? or the GPU?
-
nah its not overclocked... its just been running for a day.. however it goes in turbo mode.. i got no idea its just random... :/.. but once it starts a reeboot is needed to stop it
-
I had that same noise 2 weeks out to when I bought my m11x. I sprayed some dust off into the fan vent and never heard anything since. If that doesn't help I would call Dell support, they probably would replace your fan or something.
-
yeah the fan is touching some of its casing. Try some dust away to blow anything away, if doesn't help its warranty time.
I am not sure if the warranty dell provides is worldwide though. -
will try now and let you guys know
.. its weird sometimes it does it sometimes it dosnt (will upload a video too show what i mean)... time to get some compressed air!!.. and does dell really have international warranty?.. id like to check it through them..
-
alright guys this is what i did.. i thought if the fan is hitting its cage means that id need to run some apps which kicks in the fan at high speeds.. thought about updating the bios..always makes my fan goes on high speeds so this shows that.. updating bios to A04 which kicks in the fan - YouTube
however after the reboot same problem
same noise - YouTube
now what do you guys think is the problem? it beats me.. runs fine at one time and not the other :/ -
To me, it sounds like it's either hitting something very subtley, or is slightly loose. Either way, it's up to you to try to fix it yourself or pay a computer expert (or Dell warranty technician). But I really have no idea, so don't take my words as expert advice. I kinda doubt it's a software problem though, it seems like a software problem would just make it louder, not produce a different noise.
-
Just open it and have a look at the fan run the fan unmounted, clean it. Does it still make the noise when it runs unmounted.
-
yeah i didnt open it thought id void warranty?.. anyways spoke to alienware australia.. did the ownership transfer from us to aus.. just gotta wait for it to go through.. nd they will calla n engineer
.. ill let you guys know how that goes
-
Mine is making the same noise as yours. I did some blowing in there while it was making the noise, and it seems to have helped, albeit temporarily. It's almost embarrassing that it bugs me as much as it does, but when my wife comes in the room and says, "What's that noise?" it's enough.
And I get an extra point for using 'albeit'. -
@descalzo.. i dont know but my noise was from the hardware noise i think.. i was using evga pro and overclocking cpu... idk a lot about computers but the way it fixed my noise was i just upgraded to windows 7 ultimate.. i never hear it anymore... its just gone... using it 3 months without that annoying noise
. so its worth a shot!!

My warrenty has expired, so what is this easy fix of yours? -
If it sounds like a grinding noise you're probably right, you may need to check your fan.
