m11 r2 screen is barely visible. Maybe the lamp or backlit?

my m11 r2 has been great but recently my screen is barely visible. the screen is dark and the only way i can see my desktop if i move the lcd up or close to a light. Is there a lamp problem? or did something unplugged or maybe a software/bios problem? thanks.

Edit: the alienware symbol behind the screen isnt lit but the keyboard and everything else is.

LCD inverter maybe, though I have not taken apart a m11x in a long time, is it built into the assembly?

If you have warranty still then use it, were the hinges/top half assembly ever changed? If not, Dell might fix it anyways as the hinges will go out sooner or later I would think, but I do not know.

M11x is LED, it could be the LCD, LVDS cable or mobo.

It sure sounds like the backlight is dead.

Ok so do I need a new cable? Warranty is expired and I can replace it myself.

The only way to test XX part if it could be a whole bunch of possible parts is to replace it with a known good part. Start with the cheapest part, the LVDS cable. Then LCD then motherboard...or extend the Dell warranty and let them take care of it if you don't want to go that route.
