I bought this re-furbed over a year ago and have had nothing but issues. Its been sent off and repaired for over heating (replaces gpu and fan/heat sink) twice. Is there a lemon policy? as now its out of warranty and Im sure 200$-400$ to fix.
Current situation is this. Im trying to reinstall windows, fresh and clean. That way I can at least use it for general use. Any video games and it gets to hot to touch and shuts down.
So I go grab my portable usb dvd drive and my boot discs. When I hit f12 to choose my boot options, I select cd/dvd or whatever. Next I get a black screen with a blinking cursor in the top left, and it just sits there. I let it sit for an hour, twice. Now I have done this DOZENS of times and im pretty sure this is where it asks if you want to boot from a disc or not.
This computer is killing me. After I bought it I lost my job, and got diagnosed with crohns disease. I dont have the funds to replace nor send it off to fix. Any help would be great as my only income is through selling my artwork, which I now cannot do.Before you ask I am posting this via my tablet which does not a alienware laptop replacement make.

Hi, sorry to hear about your misfortune, but try to hit F8 a couple of times right after you press start, that should get you to the advanced boot menu

If you don't try to install Windows with the external DVD drive does it give you the same black screen with a cursor? If so, maybe it's not recognizing the DVD correctly.
If you haven't re-installed Windows since you got the laptop then you might have a hidden recovery partition called AlienRespawn. To access this partition you need press F8 repeatedly at the alienware logo screen, then when prompted choose AlienRespawn and follow the on-screen intructions. -
Try making a Win7 USB install disc.

alright, chill bro.
So what you want to do is download Universal USB Installer – Easy as 1 2 3 | USB Pen Drive Linux
as well as a windows image file, I am sure you can get them off MS website or torrents etc. then just get any 4gb+ i believe flash drive/memory card and use the universal usb installer to put it onto the flash drive.
when booting laptop on the first load screen hit i think its f12 to select the boot drive and select usb external drive/storage whatever it calls that, once windows pops up just give it a lil time as it might take a bit to load from there on its just following the instructions.
any questions feel free to ask, done this a million times could do this with my eyes closed
m11x , more problems, boot disc wont work...
