    Hey all,
    Forgive me for being a noob, if this has been posted, but all I see are "processor upgrade" threads. I've been toying with the idea of upgrading the stock 335 GeForce in my m11x, and I have been told this is "usually impossible." Given that I am confidently proficient in building computers and tearing their guts out, I'd love to challenge this. Here's what I found on Dell's site:

    "Alienware M11X has initially installed GeForce 335M wich is MXM 3.0B interface.

    The goal is to define which mxm cards can be installed to upgrade m11x system, what are cards' differences. The following video cards are compatible with mxm 3.0b interface:

    * GeForce 1GB NVIDIA 280M Video Card X648M
    * GeForce 1GB NVIDIA 280M Video Card X203R
    * GeForce 1GB NVIDIA 260M Video Card WG4VV
    * GeForce 1GB NVIDIA 260M Video Card 96Rj4"

    What do you guys think? Is it possible or worth the expense? Would any Radeon cards of the same form factor fit in? I know she's crammed full into that tiny case. Would it be worth it or just bottleneck the ULV Penryn? And furthermore, why does Jerry Seinfeld hate Junior Mints?? :p I have the SU4100 in mine. This is my nerd moment for today.

    The M11X is not MXM 3.0b compatible. Remember that what defines the compatibility is not the card but how the manufacturer integrates the card.

    You will not be able to switch the graphic card on your M11X.

    Now for argument sake let's imagine you could then your power adapter probably would also have to be changed if you wanted a GTX280M or better card.

    Also the cooling system would not be adequate and the cards would probably fry within days or weeks of being intensively used.

    An excellent question and i think anytime you have new hardware from alienware the opportunity to upgrade should be explored. In this case our hands are tied. The graphic and CPU are tied into the MB.

    In other words... You will have to wait for a refresh and if they keep the internal measurements the same and swap the mobo.

    Thanks a lot guys, repped! This is actually my first laptop I've ever owned. I guess I'm used to the old ISA/PCI/AGP/PCI-E etc standards...I feel like I need to take a "new computers" course in college all over again
