I ordered an M11x R1 on 2/8/11 and expected it on the 22nd. How long does it take Dell to ship to the Chicago? It takes 1-2 days later then that for me to receive UPS packages.

The laptop is still only "in production".

    Order Date: 2/11/2011

Are yours for m11x's as well? I wonder if there is a delay and we get the new hinges?

Per the hinge problem thread it looks like new hinges are not going to be implemented until March/R3.

I think you just answered your own question. If Dell expects the package to be delivered to the destination address on Feb 22nd, and it takes an additional 1-2 days, then the best estimate is for you to get the laptop on Feb 23rd / 24th.

Dell's online order status is notoriously slow to update, as is the shipping info once it does actually flip to "shipped."

After a few days in production, you can call Dell and they can give you the low down on where exactly "in production" it is. Kitting, Testing, Boxing, whatever. Once it's in boxing, it usually ships in the next 24-48 hours (at least with the M11x and a Dell Studio XPS that i've bought in the past year).

Also, once my M11x actually shipped, the FedEx page was never populated with meaningful information other than "billing information received" or something like that, up until it was out for delivery. My free 5-7 day shipping ended up taking 3 days going from somewhere in NJ to DC.

    Waiting stinks, doesn't it? :(

Hi everyone! Soon to be proud owner of an M11x R2! Great info on this site! Also wanted to add on to those who are curious about shipping times, which I was myself. If you call 800-Alienware and speak to a rep, they will give you correct info on your status. My order too said In Production for about 4 business days, when I called they told me it was actually shipped, checked online later that day, low and behold status says shipped! :D EDD is 2/19/11 purchase date was 2/10/11 (at 2 am mind you) with a previous EDD of 2/25/11. If you guys like I will post a very detailed unboxing, even though I am sure most people here have already received theirs. I feel like a kid at christmas!

That seems like too many numbers for a phone number haha. I'll try it tomorrow! I plan on doing a detailed unboxing also, most of them on youtube are pretty bad. I've got a few ideas to make a good video, so all i need is the machine!

I ordered my R1 on the 5th. It said it would be built on the 15th and arrive on the 22nd.

It arrived to my door on the 12th! Didn't get a tracking number till the FedEx guy was on his way. Expect it early.

Just a quick update for those of you who are wondering as I was on shipping status since Dell doesn't feel the need to provide us with up to date information. Here is a little chat I had with Dell regarding some conflicting information that they gave me when I recently checked on order status.

Now keep in mind I fully understand they originally gave me a EDD of 2-25-11 and im cool with that, however for over a week I have been regularly checking my order status via the online link so I can get an idea on when to expect my package if it comes early being that Dell told me 90% of orders arrive sooner than EDD. So naturally after about 5 days with no change I decided to check this, and as you can guess for the last 8 days or so I have not seen a change from my status since "In Production". I did contact the support via phone and was told by 2 not 1... but 2! Different reps that my order had already been SHIPPED. So again one could only assume Dell at that point would have updated my status/provided me with a tracking number so that I can be prepared and available to receive my order! Right? Wrong! More info? Read below you'll get the idea! I think this really sums up the ignorance of the Reps for Dell, in my oppinion a company that can not provide SIMPLE up to date info on an order that costs $700.00, needs to get their #&%% together. To compare and contrast, I ordered $100.00 worth of merchandise *4 items to be exact* from Thinkgeek.com today, and within 15 min I received an email with my UP to date tracking info and order status.
Session Started with Agent (Darwin D)
02/18/2011 04:28:07PM Agent (Darwin D): "Welcome to Dell US Chat! My name is Darwin D. and I will be your Dell.com Chat Expert. I can be reached at [email protected] or via voicemail at 1-800-379-3355 Ext-2160085 How can I help you today?"
02/18/2011 04:28:12PM Agent (Darwin D): "Hi there..How are you doing today hope everything is doing fine?"
02/18/2011 04:28:49PM Andrew Patterson: "Hi Darwin I just wanted to check in on my order status, for some reason your online order status has not updated past in production for over a week"
02/18/2011 04:29:19PM Andrew Patterson: "My order number is 605804868 my info is Andrew Patterson, 609-277-5150, address is 3 Pheasant Meadow Dr, Galloway NJ 08205"
02/18/2011 04:29:23PM Agent (Darwin D): "It is my pleasure of helping you with that today )"
02/18/2011 04:29:30PM Agent (Darwin D): "would you please give me 2 minutes to research that for you?"
02/18/2011 04:29:41PM Andrew Patterson: "Thanks very much :)"
02/18/2011 04:29:55PM Agent (Darwin D): "Ill will try my best to access this information for you."
02/18/2011 04:31:58PM Agent (Darwin D): "Thank you for patiently waiting. Looking at it it will be delivered on or before 25th of Feb."
02/18/2011 04:32:32PM Andrew Patterson: "Im alittle confused, each time ive contacted you guys on updated information, it keeps changing"
02/18/2011 04:32:42PM Andrew Patterson: "The last guy I spoke to said on or before the 21st"
02/18/2011 04:32:52PM Andrew Patterson: "then the next guy said on or before the 24th"
02/18/2011 04:32:59PM Andrew Patterson: "my thing online says the 25th"
02/18/2011 04:33:00PM Agent (Darwin D): "That is the ship date."
02/18/2011 04:33:22PM Andrew Patterson: "So, I guess what im asking is what is the status of my order"
02/18/2011 04:33:33PM Andrew Patterson: "Im not so much asking for the delivery date"
02/18/2011 04:33:46PM Agent (Darwin D): "Ship date is the time it will be ship our from the warehouse.."
02/18/2011 04:34:05PM Andrew Patterson: "my current status last time I spoke to you guys was it was already shipped, your telling me it has not shipped yet"
    02/18/2011 04:34:09PM Agent (Darwin D): "**ship out"
02/18/2011 04:34:12PM Andrew Patterson: "I need to get the correct information"
02/18/2011 04:34:20PM Andrew Patterson: "Ive been told 3 completely different stories"
02/18/2011 04:34:34PM Andrew Patterson: "This is not good customer service, my question is and HAS been a very simple one"
02/18/2011 04:34:51PM Andrew Patterson: "The status of my order, which the last guy said it was already shipped, your telling me it has not"
02/18/2011 04:35:06PM Andrew Patterson: "Im 2 seconds from cancelling my order"
02/18/2011 04:35:10PM Agent (Darwin D): "That's the only information my system can access Andrew what I can suggest is you get in touch with our Customer care dept."
    02/18/2011 04:35:18PM Agent (Darwin D): "Customer Care 1800 624 9897"
02/18/2011 04:35:23PM Andrew Patterson: "Its rediculous I have to go through THIS much hassle to get a VERY simple answer"
02/18/2011 04:35:52PM Agent (Darwin D): "We have certain dept who can access this information ."
02/18/2011 04:35:58PM Andrew Patterson: "I cant be home to pick up my delivery if you guys cant even give me correct info on WHEN to be home to pick it up because the stories keep changing"
02/18/2011 04:36:08PM Andrew Patterson: "is there anyway to speak to them via chat?"
02/18/2011 04:36:15PM Agent (Darwin D): "The only info I can see here is the ship date and the delivery date only."
02/18/2011 04:36:31PM Agent (Darwin D): "Your annoyance / frustration is acceptable but please try to understand that there are certain things that are out of our scope."
02/18/2011 04:36:45PM Andrew Patterson: "I get that, but you need to understand"
02/18/2011 04:36:58PM Andrew Patterson: "The info you guys have been giving me has been conflicting"
02/18/2011 04:37:13PM Andrew Patterson: "I gave you guys 700 of my money, and you cant even tell me the STATUS of my order"
02/18/2011 04:37:16PM Agent (Darwin D): "I understand that this may cause you infuriation and would like to extend my humblest apology on behalf of Dell."
02/18/2011 04:38:04PM Agent (Darwin D): "My tools are just limited to mew purchases only Andrew."
02/18/2011 04:38:19PM Andrew Patterson: "I don't want an apology, I just want someone to tell me what the status of my order is, when I ordered this Alienware I was promised detailed information to be available on my order status, I didn't ASK that you guys said thats what id get and thus far ha"
ve NOT received it, instead you guys have been giving me conflicting information
02/18/2011 04:38:34PM Andrew Patterson: "So what can you do to help me find the answers Dell promised me"
02/18/2011 04:38:42PM Andrew Patterson: "Other than refer me to a telephone number"
02/18/2011 04:38:55PM Agent (Darwin D): "I would suggest calling our Customer care dept for this ."
02/18/2011 04:39:22PM Andrew Patterson: "How do I cancel my order"
02/18/2011 04:39:40PM Agent (Darwin D): "That is the same dept who can cancel the order ."
02/18/2011 04:39:43PM Andrew Patterson: "I dont want to do business with a company who cant even update me on my order status"
02/18/2011 04:39:48PM Andrew Patterson: "Your lying"
02/18/2011 04:39:56PM Andrew Patterson: "There is a seperate number for cancellations"
02/18/2011 04:40:03PM Andrew Patterson: "One I was already provided"
02/18/2011 04:40:10PM Andrew Patterson: "Im tired of you guys giving false information"
    02/18/2011 04:40:14PM Andrew Patterson: "Supervisor"
    02/18/2011 04:40:15PM Andrew Patterson: "Now"
02/18/2011 04:40:35PM Agent (Darwin D): "Hold on please"
02/18/2011 04:40:43PM Andrew Patterson: "Thank you"

As you can guess the reason it ends at Thank you was because I received NO response for 15 min and then the session just happened to "end"
The XPS 15 I just bought, is going to be returned, my M11x will get returned as well as the $300.00 worth of Alienware accessories. I wish you the best Alienware, I am calling Apple

My R2 is EDD is the 25th. Ordered the 11th. Let's hope it's a less painful story than what happened for my R1.

I was going on vacation on June 16th and it was EDD to arrive June 14th (paid for faster shipping). Turns out it changed teh EDD 3 times (each on teh day it was supposed to arrive). So I got back three weeks later and still had to wait a week. :) But now that I have my R1, I feel that the waiting will be easier for the R2!

Good luck guys! Great computer. Highly valued in my opinion.

No I am returning because Dell provided me FALSE information on several occasions, first telling me the order had been SHIPPED which it hasn't, I get that things take time, but my work also keeps me from being home on top of the fact the local FED EX is anything BUT local. So I don't think its an unfair request to get correct info if in fact the package is going to arrive on another date other than the EDD. Lets remember that I was told by 2 different Reps that the order was SHIPPED when in fact it hasn't even left the facility yet, adding to the fact each time I have called back or logged in to chat I am told totally conflicting stories. Maybe for most its not a big deal if the Fed Ex facility is nearby but mine is not. How am I over reacting if all im asking for is a simple straight forward answer on the current status of my order without conflicting info. If I am told its shipped great, can I have a tracking number? And if its not don't LIE to me, just tell me "its still EDD of 2/25/11, I am cool with that. But then I look on these forums and see everyone have EDD status changes or something change other than "In Production". It's a headache that would be totally avoided if they just STICK with the facts and say "status is still EDD of 2/25/11 and its still in production" not the ring around the rosie story I keep getting from 4 other Reps! I still find it funny I can order the same amount of stuff from Newegg, and get up to date tracking and we all know Newegg pushes WAY more product than alienware.

Dude who cares, it's a dumb computer system, you'll get it sometime next week, mad much?

Not to mention your combative way of interacting with their company, why would they want to expend any energy to help you?

hey live ~ you may want to remove the personal information you have there.

from my experience with dell, random reps have more power than other reps. for example, i tried to cancel an order that was 'in production.' according to dell's website, they cannot cancel once it reaches that stage. i called 4 times, all reiterating their terms. on the fifth call, the rep canceled with much of a blink.

I'm a bit disappointed by the order tracking as well. The order support over the phone provides different information than the website for my order. The rep that I talked with on the phone has been fairly helpful and has already emailed me with a status update once since my phone call on Wednesday. I guess it could be worse.

I ordered mine on 2/12 early morning and the EDD is and has been 2/25. I expect to get it sometime in the middle of next week as most people have had their delivered a couple/few days before the EDD. We'll see. I just hope the status doesn't change to shipped the morning of the delivery (as some people have had happen), that would be a bit of an annoyance.

Reading these last few posts reminds me of this story:

One woman who frequently flew on Southwest Airlines, was constantly disappointed with every aspect of the company’s operation. In fact, she became known as the “Pen Pal” because after every flight she wrote in with a complaint.

She didn’t like the fact that the company didn’t assign seats; she didn’t like the absence of a first-class section; she didn’t like not having a meal in flight; she didn’t like Southwest’s boarding procedure; she didn’t like the flight attendants’ sporty uniforms and the casual atmosphere.

Her last letter, reciting a litany of complaints, momentarily stumped Southwest’s customer relations people. They bumped it up to Herb’s [Kelleher, CEO of Southwest] desk, with a note: ‘This one’s yours.’

In sixty seconds, Kelleher wrote back and said, ‘Dear Mrs. Crabapple, We will miss you. Love, Herb.’”

Sometimes, "The Customer is Always Right"... is wrong. Yeah, it sure would be nice if a company can't give you an exact time, date, and global GPS coordinates of where your package is. Yeah, it sure would be nice if you didn't get 4 different stories from 4 different service reps. But people who have a little patience are willing to put up with this inconvenience (and that's all it is - an inconvenience).

And those people are smart enough to know how to navigate around a company with a gigantic customer service operation like Dell... (1) NEVER use typed-chat. Those people are the lowest of the low in the customer service ladder. If it's really that important, pick up the phone. (2) The quality of the rep you talk to varies greatly. If you don't like the answer you get, hang up and try again with a different rep.

look, if you ordered it and you were given the 2/25 EDD, but didn't receive it by 2/25, AND the CSRs gave you the run-around with false information, etc. then i think you would have a right to be a little annoyed.

i think it's pretty much general knowledge that Dell's order tracking status website is pretty crappy, not just for AW products but for all computer builds.

however, it's still only 2/19, and most accounts of recent M11x purchases have had Dell delivering on or before the EDDs. mine arrived like 5 days before my EDD.

I think the biggest thing people are missing on my post is the facts. Facts being A. I fully understand things take time, I am not impatient, I am totally fine with being given an EDD and sticking to that. B. The reason for my anger has nothing whatsoever to do with the time its taking, it has to do with information. People on here seem to keep pointing my anger towards wait time, or getting mad for little reason. C. and the most important fact about my frustration and anger, when I purchased the Alienware I was promised not just told promised up to date order status changes from a Rep of the company. The ONLY change my order has had since purchase is going from Processing to In Production, that was going on 10 days now. The sales pitch I got when I inquired about how they handle shipments etc was this whole speach about "Oh Alienware's level of service is way above the rest, we give you up to date order information through the whole process" < LIE. I don't know about you, but I hate being promised something then lied to, and or not receiving what I was promised. Also, keep in mind I had been told everything from "Your order was shipped yesterday" to the next day hearing "its awaiting boxing" to "Your EDD actually says the 21st" to next day hearing "EDD is changed to 24th". Again let me STRESS, I don't mind the wait, I DO mind being lied to and a multimillion dollar company promising me up to date order information to help me be prepared to actually receive my package instead of getting false and conflicting information everytime I call. I can order a bar of soap from Auntie's Soap House in Bumville Idaho on her Angelfire crap website and get better order status updates than dell provides. And the whole "who cares comment" I am sure you'd say the same thing if it was your 700 dollars in dells pocket. Try chatting with over 6 reps asking a VERY straight forward question of "Whats my order status" and getting a totally different answer of "EDD is 2/25/11" That alone shows how idiotic these guys are.

kent1146's post sums you up bro.

As to "And the whole "who cares comment" I am sure you'd say the same thing if it was your 700 dollars in dells pocket. Try chatting with over 6 reps asking a VERY straight forward question of "Whats my order status" and getting a totally different answer of "EDD is 2/25/11" That alone shows how idiotic these guys are."

My EDD is just happens to also be 2/25/11 but I'm not such a weirdo as to call them up every day and ask what second it's coming. So guess what, it's also my 700$ in their pocket. It comes when it comes, nothing else matters.

Back to the OP. Dell ships out of Chicago. You should have your laptop in 1 day after it's been shipped
