Using battery bar can you R1 users tell me when nothing is open, laptop sitting at no brightness with all wireless off what battery bar stats is in mW discharge rate (the lowest). As an R2 user with an i5 mine dips to 9.5k as the lowest i've seen it.. basic browsing kicks it up to 11.5k-13k.
-
-
just on my way to work, but will do this for you when I get there.
Also as a comparison, the i7 R2 was 10200 on idle and browsing and music was 12200-1380 -
The lowest I saw with my i5 just now was 10700 idle.
-
with my R1 I am getting 8200mah on idle, and about 8700 surfing this forum on LAN (sorry no WIFI connection at work)
-
I have gotten as low as 6500 with my i5, idle, no wifi. With music it idles at roughly 10k, surfing is up to 10-14000.
-
wow how did you get it that low? Are you sure thats right? That would give you 10hours of battery life!
-
I am using optimizations, this was total idle, dimmest display setting, 50% max cpu, no background tasks. It floated around 6-8k, next time I am running battery I will get some screens.
-
System idle I get around -7000 mW discharge rate.
Currently -10188 mW while writing this post and surfing. (USB 56KB dialup)
Full Lifetime: 7:52 on power saver, overclocked, integrated GPU and nothing too flash in the way of optimization. -
How do you get these stats? my battery life monitor switches like crazy
It'll give me an estimate of 5 hours then jump to 5:45 while Im browsing, this is just on the battery in the bottom right corner
PS im on power saver, min brightness, no alienfx -
Check out BatteryBar, history based battery life prediction.
-
Could someone please play a video and tell me what the battery discharge rate is?
Also, please specify what the video is, ie XviD 640x480 or H.264/AVC 720x480. -
I don't know about the discharge rate but with the screen brightness on 2 bars, WiFi and lights off I got 5hrs 24mins of playtime 720p HD video off the hard drive. The battery indicator was like 5hrs 45mins.
-
then looked down and that was the discharge rate I saw.
Check there is no HDD access via services, no gadgets, no Alienfx and GPU is integrated for idle rate stats.
As soon as you start doing things the Full Lifetime will be reduced and thus recalculated.
I think in the past I have seen battery life over 8 hours on idle.
I'm getting these stats from an application call BatteryBar v3.4.0 which can be downloaded from the net.
I'm sure with optimisation one could get even more battery life on IDLE
Wouldn't worry to much all the M11xR1 are the same depending on what you have installed and/or running.
Pulled the plug while typing this and the M11xR1 battery icon says 4:53hrs while the BatteryBar app. says 7:05hrs with discharge rate of -13,852 mW.
One of these things is not like the other, one of these things is not the same...
Just the post asked about the Battery Bar and not the M11xR1 default battery icon. -
Video attributes:With me on the net via USB 56KB dialup and Firefox 3.6 and this DVD playing full screen in the background I get -14,077 mW discharge rate
Video compression mode: MPEG-2
TV system: 625/50 (PAL)
Aspect ratio: 16:9
Display mode: Only Letterbox
Source picture resolution: 720x576 (625/50)
Frame rate: 25.00
Source picture letterboxed: Not letterboxed
Bitrate: 5.37Mbps
Audio attributes:
Audio coding mode: Dolby Digital
Sampling rate: 48kHz
Audio application mode: Not Specified
Number of audio channels: 5.1
Bitrate: 448 Kbps
Number of audio streams: 2
At 90.4% remaining I have 6:13hrs remaining with a full Lifetime of 7:04hrs.
My M11xR1 battery icon says 90% with 4hrs 20min remaining.
Oh, I'm doing all this on integrated GPU with power saving mode.
DVD is playing fine and sound is great. Bit surprised as mostly I enable nVidia GPU as habit before watching videos.
In the past I have played two DVD from the M11xR1 at the same time on two 24" IPS monitors with nVidia enabled via HDMI and DisplayPort. Played fine. Two sound tracks tend to mess with your mind though.
After this typing I see the time stats of the Battery bar and the M11xR1 battery icon are starting to merge and telling the same story.
Battery Icon 4:04hrs remaining
Battery Bar app 4:29hrs remaining
Battery bar lifetime now dropped to 5:18hrs
Battery Bar discharge rate still approx the same at -14648 mW.
Duck! I just jumped! Firefox obscures DVD and headphones make sound 'real'. -
my idle discharge rate is very high, -13,000 mW
-
Average discharge for me is about 13k mWh too. While doing absolutly nothing it turns out to be around 11k mWh.

what's "Alienware On-Screen Display" in the start up services?
-
And I have a discharge rate of 9,941 when actively surfing the net, WiFi on, Bluetooth on (but not in use). Battery bar estimates that I have 6 hr and 25 minutes at this rate. Not bad. It also helps that I have .9 V for the CPU. -
i got my i5 down to 8.8k
-
okay just did my test on an R1..
I turned down brightness, no windows open, no wifi, but I left all my services up, like steam, anti-virus etc.
-5,942 mW
73.9% with 6hr:37min left; 8hr:44min lifetime
:shrugs:
just browsing the web now with wifi back on, 4 tabs open I get about -7.5 to 8.3k jumping up and down between there.
*edit*
I'm not sure what I did to get it that low. I just did what the OP said to see what the lowest I could get. I didn't shut down any services so I dunno. I don't normally have command center going if that helps. Oh yeah and I have an SSD.. so maybe?
I only have a couple more days with this unit before I send it back lol and I got my unopened R1 sitting around.. *ahem*Attached Files:

What did you do to get it that low?
-
I am seeing 12-13 mWh draw. This is with power saver mode, 1 bar brightness, Lights on, and very light web browsing. I have an I7, turbo on and O/Ced @ 154. But IMO I really feel the 335 is on at all times. That's why
I think we are seeing the high idle usage. R1 users could disable the 335 and R2 users need to be able to do the same. -
Here is my idle screen, getting a steady 7.5-8.5k.

edit: getting rid of mcafee dropped me another 800 mWh lol! glad i decided to go with nod32! -
-
man I haven't really paid attention to battery life much but after using battery bar, I never realized how good my battery life is. It's freakin' nuts. I'm gonna be able to hit 8 hours if I keep this up, but I'm gonna put her to sleep and go to bed. Been on battery since I posted the screen shot above. I'm convinced the SSD is helping.. anyway attached new ss

It is fun. I never used BatteryBar until I saw this post.
Some have suggested idle times in the range of 5000 - 6000.
I previously got 7000 - 8000 with CPU OC'd and most stuff shut down using power saver.
M11xR1 SU7300 1.3Ghz 500GB 7200RPM HDD Intel GPU.
Without CPU OC and nVidia GPU disabled I got -5723 mW at IDLE
Still have anti-virus and other core services enabled, but on power saving with brightness turned down.
SSD probably would help. I checked my 7200RPM HDD access and nothing happening except background system and anti-virus (Avira) when file system accessed.
Even before all this show and tell, I've seen 7+ hours on the M11xR1 system battery icon when idle.
In a past test watching a 720p DVD via powerDVD8 I got -14000 mw with CPU OC'd, Intel GPU and power saver.
Even when DVD was playing, I opened firefox 3.6 and connected to the net via USB dialup and the discharge rate still hovered at -14000 mW.Attached Files:

Fast Track i5, 4gb ram, 250gb 7200 hd
I am so jealous of all of you with your 7300s I want that kind of battery life -
-
I get to think that the internal HD Graphics is the reason for the drop in battery life as it should outperform the old 4500MHD from the M11x. Maybe there is a way to downclock integrated HD graphics from the Intel i-series

What are you guys doing to get such low power draw? For some reason all I can get from my battery lately is 5-6 hours of battery life, and I was easily able to do 6-7hrs on WiFi. So far, except for a few moments I can't see it draw less than 10k...
Here's a screenshot of my power draw with a few programs open:
And this is at IDLE with a few programs open (i.e. nothing active aside form utorrent) The number doesn't change at all even when I turn off uTorrent.
Any ideas of what I should do to improve battery life, and decrease my draw? -
Should we start a new thread for m11xr2 owners? Because my discharge rate is around 14k-16k for the i7, which gives me around 3-5 hours max. Shouldn't the battery life be way higher? This is my first laptop so I don't know too much about this, but compared to those getting upwards of 7-8 hours on the old su7300s, it's just ridiculously power hungry. What are others getting for their i7s?
-
-
for the R2 i7 i got 13k average while surfing/wlan with min brightness
absolut minimum i could get was 10k while doing absolut nothing.
Not that great but that way i get a solid 5+ hours of "doing normal things"
As for my time at the university thats enough. and if lessons get boring theres still enough battery time to play games. -
16k on the M11x? And the 335 is OFF? Good lord that is high. Check and see if your graphics card is OFF. And I'm not too sure about this bit there are some programs outside of games that will kick on Optimus (and suck battery life in the process) -
-
Thanks n.czar for the initiative, and tears, yes that's without the 335m
I managed to get it around 14k average with AIM, firefox, avast, and gtalk. This is lowest brightness, power saver mode. Still seems kinda low though.. and maybe I should post this in the new thread lol -
I suggest any Discharge Rate should be identified as M11xR1 or M11xR2
M11xR1 SU7300 1.7Ghz OC'd Intel GPU (NOT nVidia) 500GB 7200RPM HDD
When I test for idle at rest I have left the notebook for half an hour for the battery stats to recalculate.
Probably the lowest Discharge Rate I have got is -4383 mW with the M11xR1 default battery icon stating 13hr 45min.
You will only get these sort of rates if your system is IDLE for at least 15minutes with no processes active, brightness turned down, power saver enabled, no disk activity, no AlienFX, no WiFi or Bluetooth, all external devices removed and only using Intel GPU and NOT nVidia GPU.
Doh! Now I can't use my M11xR1 cause it'll ruin my stats.
If you want to extend battery life, then only enable the tools/applications to do the job required and disable/remove those which are not required.
The M11xR2 is probably going to have a different profile due to Optimus and icore processors.
At the end of the day, if I can get 5hrs battery usage over a varied range of applications I'll be happy.
The rest is just bean counting.Attached Files:

Well whatever. I'm just happy I can actually game well on a sub 13" notebook, and have 5+ of battery life (I have to really stretch to get above 6 hours...). Anything above 6 hours is an added bonus.
Because of the good battery life, a lot of the time I don't even have to bring my AC adapter to school. That's something I couldn't do with my old 15" lappy. Not to mention it was considerably heavier and the processor wasn't that much faster than the overclocked M11x (it was 1.8GHz.) -
Does changing the Wifi card have any effect? My M11x has a Dell Wifi card which is terrible, and I'm definitely changing to an Intel 5100. I remember looking this up for my X200T and people saying it drew less power than the Intel 5300. If this was the case, I wonder if it's better than the Dell card.
-
Not sure. Reading radio signals is going to take energy whether you like it or not...
-
my lowest mw rate is now about 10800 at the bare minimum. i really want to get it down to the 9000 arena, maybe a ssd would do the trick and all i need now is $300
-
-
now it is higher than the low of 10,000 i had a few days ago
-
If you Lower ur minimum CPU % from 5 to like 1-2% u see a Preety Big change. I went from 10k idle/surfing11k to 6k idle 8k surf
m11x R1 users what is your idle mW discharge rate?
