Hi, I posted this in the "random lockups" thread but no replies has prompted me to start something on this page. My m11x R2 is locking up after a couple hours of gaming. Doesn't matter what game, WOW, starcraft, CoD. It seems to only do it when I'm doing something extremely demanding on the graphics card (dungeon in WOW, 4 vs 4 in starcraft, etc). I have gone to Laptops, Desktop Computers, Monitors, Printers & PC Accessories | Dell and downloaded all updated drivers including the bios and it hasn't helped at all. I've looked in the system viewer after I reboot the computer and it seems to quit logging information right before the lockup so it has no idea what's going on. Here is a link to the youtube video of the lockup screen. YouTube - Alienware M11x lockup screen
On a side note I use the laptop on a very nice cooling pad. When the computer locks up it is not warm to the touch anywhere on the bottom or top, so I can assume its not heat related. Any tips or suggestions for diagnosing this problem will be appreciated before I call dell so I can be prepared for the tech support conversation.

Well just to make sure its not heat related, go ahead and download GPU-z & Realtemp and put ur system under some load (prime95 & fumark will do) and see what your temp are after a little while. Nether CPU or GPU should really hit 80c or above.
I take it your not overclocking in anyway? if so disable the OC. May be a good test to disable TurboBoot in the bios to see how it reacts as you may have a weak CPU.
If its still doing it, try uninstalling the nvidia drivers, booting into safe mode, then running drivercleaner, then installing the dell nvidia drivers again to see if that has any effect.. or better yet, a complete re-install using the recovery disk.
You could also run Memtest86+ to see if your RAM has any errors. If i remember correctly Dell install a diagnotics partition which you can boot into which should do the job too.
If this all fails, then i guess you gotta contact dell for a replacement -
Well after doing some testing and not really seeing anything out of the ordinary I decided to contact dell. After an hour on hold the technician decided to connect remotely to my computer, he said for me to go ahead and log into a game and he will monitor the temperatures for me. I logged into starcraft 2 and turned all the graphics up to Ultra (really trying to tax the system) and thought to myself man this guy is really going to watch me play starcraft for an hour until it locks up! Of course it was my lucky day because startcraft locked up after just 5 minutes of play and the tech guy was left clueless trying to figure out what happened. Needless to say my m11x now has a new motherboard, processor, and graphics card (all come as 1 piece now I believe). Will reply again if I have anymore lockups when I can sit down and game for a couple hours.
