I can't get my m11x with the default wireless card to connect to and N band setting on this router. I've tried different channels and all the different modes:

    270mbps a 5ghz & 54mbps at 2.4ghz
    270 at 2.4
    130 at 2.4
    130 at 5ghz & 54 at 2.4

The card just won't connect to any of the N bands for increased speed. I can only get 54mbps out of the 2.4ghz.

    Any suggestions?

What type of security are you using? Make sure you are connecting to the N network, and not the G one, they are normally separate names. I have the WNDR3700 and connect to N with no problems on the 300+ duel band setting channel 36 (and can pull data down at the max write rate of the HDD, about 20MBps).

McAfee internet security. I connect to the G-band SSID just fine, it just won't let me connect to the N band SSID. I'm using the latest router firmware too.

I should probably also note that I'm using the built in windows7 wireless connection setup to manage these connections. I'm about 99% positive I'm configuring them right (obviously the 54mbs connection is working) even through all my security settings.

Try turning off all security and make the N network open, can you connect now by just scanning for it, clicking, and bam? If so it is security issue (which is really common, wireless security sucks).

One would think that wouldn't be the case since I can already connect to one of the bands just fine. I've never had anything connected to the N band (my old laptop only had a G card).

Ill give that a try tomorrow though if it comes to it. Any other suggestions in the mean time?

I'm using wpa2 with aes and not broadcasting the ssid for either band.

Sometime, I find that if you use WPA/2, some wifi client will have problem connect until reboot. If reboot didn't help, remove the wifi profile and recreate it.

If we are being honest here you don't need the security anyway. If you do not broadcast the SSID you can change it to something rather obscure, like "W1r3l3ssN3tw0rk" or something and it is just as secure as using wireless security. No one can log on unless they know the SSID, and good luck brute forcing something typed in l33t speak.

I have been running no encryption with a non-broadcasted SSID for years in a crowded area and never had any problems.

Just remembered though, when you created the rule for the N network make sure you set it to "Connect even if not broadcasting". Like I said though, easiest way is to disable everything, broadcast the SSID with an open network, get it working basic then add in security, stop the SSID broadcasting, and gradually get it back to what you want.

Gonna try a few rebooting methods after I get out of this vpn session that I can't leave.

Any other suggestions are appreciated. :)

Gonna try everything suggested so far. Yeah I do set it to "connect if not broadcasting" too. Gonna try disabling all security and broadcasting the SSID first. Then rebooting and deleting profiles/reconfiguring them (I already tried this to some extent the other day).

    Maybe I shouldn't have bought a refurb?

    Figured it out,

    There is a option...

    Advanced>Wireless Settings

To enable Radio for the WNDR3300. Such a easy fix. Weird that having this disabled still allowed 2.4ghz just not 5ghz.
