Last night while loading Global Agenda from a power on from hibernate, I too experieneced this popping noise. But it was nothing a restart couldn't fix, I'm just worried it will happen again >:|

I've been getting loads of snap, crackle, popping just while listening to winamp. Tried everything, disconnecting usb, power options, external monitors, battery,
etc... Found that when I disabled wifi (Fn+F3) it seemed to go away. I don't recall the noise when I initially got the 11x R2. However at that time I was using a G wifi router. I recently updated to a wireless N router. Maybe there's some kind of interference coming from the wireless card while operating on N-mode (or whatever you call it).

Hmmm. Thats weird. I get the popping noise and stuff irrespective of the wireless. I am pretty sure its either a driver or a windows issue; because I am currently dual booting Ubuntu 10.04 and the sound has never made popping noises. Fair enough I don't play games on the Ubuntu side (nvidia drivers date back to the beginning of 2010) but in windows media player would also do the popping noises. And sometimes when I boot windows up, the sound just after entering my password and going into windows, also makes a weird pop noise.

Its just a weird problem. :/

I don't know if anyone has mentioned it but it seems to me that I only get the popping noise when my CPU is running at 100%. I have been frantically trying to reduce CPU usage but just having MSN on along with a few YouTube videos is enough to wack it into full pelt. I also get some popping noises while playing Modern Warfare 2, in that case again once the CPU is at full load, the popping noises increases. But over time when it settles down, there is not so much. Hope this helps find a solution.

Is it possible that the noise is tied to your fan speed? Is it present when the fan is off?

No I don't think so, right now my fan is not even on its highest level and I still get the popping noise. It may be possible since the fan is running on when the processor is at full load but somehow I don't think it is the case.

Just out of interest, do what this guy suggests. Apparently its something to do with how win7 or Vista deals with the sound something...ask a tech guy... Fix: Audiodg.exe High CPU Usage

I have had times when the audiodg process would use like 10% of cpu the WHOLE time.

I had the same problem for a month already. I figured it appeared only when playing a movie or a more demanding game with the discrete graphics. The image stutters and a popping buzz appears from the speakers. It's annoying and i tried reinstalling drivers, trying different versions and the problem persists. Now I just tried the above idea and I will post info if it works.

It happens to my R3 but it only happens when I have it connected through HDMI to external monitor/speakers.

I had an issue with my Desktop where I would experience cracking and popping when loading any game. It was only from my monitor's built-in speakers though, the popping did not come from my Logitech external speakers.

It only started when I started using an DVI-HDMI cord (I was using DVI-DVI with no issues). I eventually found that the popping was because I had my monitor's volume (not the PC "volume" control, but the actual monitor's volume +/- controls maxxed out. The external speakers were obviously using the on-board Realtek sound card, while the HDMI was attempting to push sound out of the built-in speakers, thus causing the really load uncontrolable cracking. It was easily fixed by muting my monitor.

Since the m11x has HDMI output, I thought I would share this just incase someone was having similar issues and hadn't thought of this...

@MustangDJP - I registered for this forum just to thank you. You saved me HOURS of time and trouble. I've called Dell on this twice and they wanted me to do a full restore of my computer before returning it. Turns out I just needed to turn the volume down on my external monitor. Amazing. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!

This thread is nearly 12 months old and hasn't seen a new post since that time (prior to the recent few). If there is an ongoing or new issue with audio stuttering or popping with the 11x, lets get a new thread created with some reproduction steps. Its time to retire this thread.

Questions on this, shoot me a PM. Thanks guys. :)

Well if it comes particularly to Crysis - the topic is done. However, I believe the problem is more general. After Browsing a while, I discovered that the issue were the constant DPC spikes, which usually cause audio/video stuttering. Use this ( DPC Latency Checker) tool to find out if you suffer from the same. I found out that disabling the dedicated GPU solves the issue, so I made a factory restore and everything is back to normal so far. Will keep you posted after a couple of days of testing.
