So with my tablet project pretty much dead due to the lack of a good touch screen, I have decided to explore other options.
My idea,
Take my optx 21 inch lcd, and install the metal cage from a m11x (part the motherboard mounts to) inside of it. The optx has 2 hdmi ports, so I can use one for the internal computer and one if I ever get a desktop (wife hates desktops) I can use the onboard 4 port usb hub for the m11x usb ports with some simple usb pig tails. I can install the required headphone jacks for 5.1 into the open space on the i/o plate.
I can loose a fair amount of the overall bulk of the m11x when I remove the battery, lcd and keyboard.
The power brick can be wired into the optx lcd case, and power tapped off the optx power cable.
Now with the r1 showing its age a bit, I need to figure out if with some modding the r1 base cage can hold a r3 motherboard. If it can, then I can upgrade pretty easy. I dont really have to worry about any of the
I have always like the idea of having a desktop, but with out the bulk of the tower and all the wires.
Thoughts?

Nice project, wireless keyboard and mouse seems like a must have in this configuration, maybe add some sound to this?
Did you test if the computer would boot up without battery? -
Yes she boots with no battery. I was going to use my tactx mouse/keybaord to keep with the theme.
I Think I can install most of the m11x led lights in there too. -
i say ditch the R1 case altogether and go with a R3 mobo. find something the right shape to house the mobo and use epoxy to mount some stand offs and attach the mobo to that. with having a lil more space to work with you could mod the heatsink to be super quiet too.

True, maybe I will just make my own board to mount it all to. Now, since I dont have a r3 mobo or the budget to get one yet, anyone know if the mounting points are the same? I know the i/o board has a different mounting point.

I will miss the tablet project but well, is not really your fault that 11.6" touch screens are useless.
Anyways, I will be waiting now to see the results of this new project , that actually it sounds interesting.
