Sorry for making a random post, but I've got to say that my rig has fallen on the floor like 3-4 times, in last 2 months, from my shoulder to the ground with just a cushion sleeve and NOTHING has happened to it. No dents, scratches, cracked screen, or any injuries. I expected the hinges or screen to crack or break but nothing. :) This is one durable rig, my old xps 1210 had a cracked screen and broken wireless card the first time it fell.

My old m1210 had all the paint scruffed the palmrests from overuse, lol :p

I think most people are with you on this. The m11x is very(!) solidly built--EXCEPT the hinges. If it weren't for the hinges starting to crack and break open, this would be one tough little tank. Definitely one of the best laptops I've ever used.

Its only competition (ignoring our hinge problem) is the Unibody Macbook Pro, in my opinion, but even then we get some much cooler looking hardware! :)

I've dropped my M11xR1 onto carpet twice with the lid open and split coffee in the keyboard.
Both drops from a height of approx. 90cm(3').
Had to remove keyboard to clean the coffee out.

Had the M11xR1 for seven months now and the hinges are still good to go (Not broken).

The display(lid) does feel flimsy so I'm guessing it's just luck that both times it wasn't the lid that took the brunt of the fall.

My Toshiba Portege is now 11 years old running winXP Professional, still in very good order AND just won't die!

Only time will tell, if I'll be able to say that of my M11x. Sadly, I doubt it.

Good post. I have to agree. I love the tough sturdy look of my m11x. Like a mini challenger 2.

I treat mine very well but I use it every day and haven't had a hinge problem. It was purchased in April. I will be upgrading the warranty on it before it runs out though.

hehe I dropped mine off my bed once, but it bounced off my laundry. The free fall function protection works, though. ^_^ Turned itself off

I never dropped any of my laptop so far, and I touch wood, crossfingers and anything for that it will never happen :p
By the way I'm with you on this, the thing feel pretty solid to me... only afraid of the hinges of course but since 2 month I didn't notice any change and I use it daily for work...
Anyway i always treat it very carefully so well, nothing 's suppose to happen ;)
