How likely will it be to have a modded BIOS with a 333MHz FSB overclock option?
-
-
It seems that DavyGT is working on it, but sadly without succes for now.
-
for the r1????? please say yes and what would that get you anyway?
-
333MHz x 6 = 1998MHz
-
aaaaand im assuming it isn't for the r1 right?
-
Of course its for the r1. Only one that can be modded to do that.
-
with no pinmod? cuz i would literally drive to DavyGT's house and kiss him, with tounge, if he does it
-
I will hold you to this. I, however, do not think this will incentivize Davy to make a mod.
My brother would be thrilled for such a mod though. -
i doubt it can be done. why do you think there's pin mods.
-
I agree this sound interesting.
-
its already been tried before. without success. and the R1 is getting dated. and dont have much of a crew left to spend the time to do it.
-
Seems to be an un-natural amount of interest in the M11xR1 all of a sudden.
I thought DavyGT had gone off long ago to fry bigger fish elsewhere.
Anyone remember Nautis?
And that Ozzie guy what carved out his own slice of the world on an apple. -
Is there any way to unlock CAS7 support in the BIOS?
-
With the R3 out I can't see this as being any sort of focus.
-
Ah, the old (but not forgotten) heroes of the M11x.
I think Nautis hangs out around the Sony Z section these days.
I'm not sure about the Aussie guy, he did have a cool avatar though
-
I'm rather skeptical that a 333 mhz OC can be done via BIOS, but I'm just hoping and praying that someone proves me wrong. Dead wrong...
-
I'm sceptical too but the BIOS is connected to the PLL somehow. That's how the 266mhz overclock works. Maybe it's possible to change 266 to 333, maybe not.
-
Some work in progress here Alienware M11x R1 BIOS
-
if ahmed can come up with a the bios mod he will be an r1 hero no doubt.
-
Man I keep getting excited when this thread comes up, I'm waiting for the "I've done it! Bios overclock to 333mhz! Download it here!!!!!!1
-
Does anybody know whether Ahmed is including the .95 GPU volt mod in the bios?
-
If he gets it done at all we still arent sure if it's possible
-
OMG its uploaded
M11X MODIFIED BIOS.rar
Who's gonna be first!???
see here:
http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-Alienware-M11x-R1-BIOS?page=3 -
Wait, so it's done!?!? Argh, I want to download it, but it's rather untested as of now...
-
It's done, just need testers
-
Ill test it! i got the recovory BIOS anyway. oh and this is the 333 mhz hack rite?
-
no deadboy90, this is a modded bios, it will have a ton of extra options to enable you to overclock in the bios settings. let us know if it at least boots for you.
-
oh well ill still give it a shot, and i was so happy for a minute...
-
Wait, so you can achieve a 333 mhz OC if properly configured, right????
-
nobody knows yet! test it out! just make sure you have the crisis recovery program found on gpu volt mod thread first
based off the pictures posted here:
http://www.bios-mods.com/forum/Thread-Alienware-M11x-R1-BIOS?page=3
there is an option for the frequency ratio, i believe that's what you're going to want to adjust to overclock the cpu -
I got good news and bad news, the BIOS flash didn't brick my laptop but if you try entering the "performance options" menu the system freezes and has to be hard reset
-
deadboy90, i let him know the problem, also I recommend you sign up over there since you seem to be the first one to test it out. I have also sent him the link to this thread so maybe he will chime in
-
Will do thanks LIVE ON THE EDGE!!!!!!
-
Lets keep the feedback in the thread at bios-mods forums. We don't want Ahmed to try to chase down bugs and such over in this thread. Not to say we shouldn't discuss the modded bios among ourselves here.
-
I'm one of the unlucky one's who has an R1 that won't overclock stably (I get BSOD often if the bios overclock is enabled). Does anyone one know if this will fix that issue? Does the bios enable a higher clock without a need to pin mod. Also will this void my warranty?
-
damn, thats sucks. anyway if we are lucky we will be able to OC higher without a pinmod and no it wont void your warrenty because to get rid of it all you have to do is use the recovery BIOS and it goes back to normal. O BTW, If you have any 1066 mhz laptop ram laying around you can try that and try overclocking again. Just a thought, dont go wasting 60 bucks on memory cuz it probobly wont even work
-
If under warranty and you have that concern it may be better to wait
-
Ok the creator of the mod Ahmed said that hes going to try again and post another version of the mod tommarow. anybody else wanna take the plunge with me?
-
I'm testing right along with you. Same results, and am waiting for the next bios.
-
Yea high five for our total lack of regard for our nearly thousand dollar laptops! lol
-
I have tested it with the same results.
-
Can any of you guys confirm that the seta operation from ata to ahci setting is working? it should be ata by default, ahci should enhance your HD performance
Difference between ATA and AHCI setting for SATA operation in BIOS - Laptop General Hardware Forum - Laptop - Dell Community -
I'm moved on to a R3, but this is exciting stuff, hope it ends up working for you all
-
Anyone managed to overclock to 2GHz with this BIOS?
-
we havnt managed any overclock with this BIOS, the "Performance options" menu makes the system freeze. the maker is uploading a new version today, i keep checking the site ever 10 minutes lol
-
I know!
if this works means I can play BF3 on my m11x ;D -
In Ahmed's response, he mentioned that the frequency ratio might not work properly.....if that's true, then the OC will be limited by the RAM, right?(I'm assuming he's talking about FSB:Ram ratio, right? If not, disregard this whole post) That means that hitting 1.9-2.0 probably wont happen without some good ram. Unless, of course, this modded BIOS allows one to set the RAM to CAS7. (Last time I checked, no one could find any such RAM @ CAS6) Of course, I've been busy doing other things over the past couple of months so this may have changed.
As always, be careful gentlemen....you're playing with fire here & I would hate to see you brick your M11x.
I'll be following these two threads, tho.....it's most definitely relevant to my interests. -
The guys who have pinmoded their systems use Kingston HyperX RAM to keep their OC's stable, so that might work. also bricks are no problem, theres a BIOS recovery guide I put into a USB that i have sucessfully recovered from bricks with several times
-
This made me laugh pretty hard, as it's exactly what I'm doing: study for the test, then check, then study, then check... -
I'm already at 2.0ghz and don't really care about the 333mhz bios mod. I'm looking for a way to relax memory dependency so I can push it harder.
