I recently got an alienware m11x from my friend who didn't want it anymore. I gotta say i love it but my main desktop just broke down and relying on this thing as my only gaming rig makes me realize how weak it is, which is expected since it is a small laptop.

anyway I realize the processor is whats bottlenecking this small beast and i found an m11x r2 mobo with the processor (i5) and heatsink for about $150.

would it be possible to swap this mobo into my r1 and just transfer all my other parts such as gpu, RAM, wifi card etc and i'll essentially have an r2? will it fit properly in the r1 chasis? i'm pretty sure they are the exact same size and design but not 100% sure about this.

Hmm if I recall they are slightly different enough that you can't fit a R2 motherboard into a R1 chassis. Since everything is soldered onto the motherboard you also won't be able to swap parts like the processor or GPU.

Nope, won't fit. Not at all, not even after modding it with a Dremel. Ports don't match up, mounts don't match up.

    Hello :)

Everyone's right, the motherboard will not fit, mainly because all the ports on the left side are different.

Adding to what my partner said, the GPU is not swappable. It is embedded on the motherboard.
