    Are you overclocked? Without OC, mine isn't on very much.

    Also, make sure your fan is clean and get a laptop cooler. As dust builds up, the fan has to work harder to keep the system cool. Heat concerns is one of the reasons I went with the Core2 processor over the Core i5 or i7 processors. The Core 2 processors have a TDP (Thermal Design Power) of 10 Watts while the Core i5 and i7 are 18 Watts. This translates to higher heat output and lower battery life. And with the Geforce 335M having a TDP of 35 Watts, I'm not surprised that people have some lower performance with Core i5s and i7s, because the fan will have to work harder because of dust buildup and the higher temps will mean Turbo won't kick in as often. The SU4100 and SU7300 may have a higher TDP than 10 Watts because they are overclocked, but perhaps not since the SU9400, which is a 1.6 GHz processor from the same family still maintains 10W.

    And benchmarks comparing the SU7300, i5-520UM, and the i7-620M (M11xR2 comes with i7-620UM, which is lower power and lower clock speed) show that the FPS difference between the SU7300 and Core i5 processors isn't much.

    I appreciate the reply.. but a brand new laptop with dust already... there is something else. Fan is too active and blowing all the time it seems.

    What exactly are you doing on it? I think this laptop is relative cool to previous one's i have owned. If you are watching videos or playing a game, the nvidia gpu can kick in and that is when you get heat. If you are just watching videos, try to make it run off the intel graphics and the fan will not kick in as much. As soon as the discrete nvidia gpu turns on, the fans pretty much never stop.

    @richyrich

    I5/i7 include the northbridge tdp, while in c2d, the NB is seperate.

    Addup the CPU, NB, & SB on both systems, they will be within 1-2W of each other.

    I have the i7 version with updated BIOS, no OC, on balanced mode. laptop doesn't use the fan if I'm not playing games. No heat issues while playing either.

    My R2 i7 is OC to 162. The GPU is OC as well. Ive been streaming movies from Netflix today having firefox added to the whitelist and not only is the CPU running pretty cool, the fan hasnt kicked on much at all.

    Thanks for clarifying that. The GS45 chipset does use 7 -8 Watts, depending on what the speed on the 4500HD graphics is clocked at, so yes 17W -18W for the SU4100 and SU7300.
