Ok my other thread died so anyway I found a friend who has the m11x r3 and was able to use it and I love the thing, the size, battery, and everything is really cool, I only managed to test one game on it,black ops, and found it has much better graphics and gameplay than my ps3 (constant 50 to 60 fps!)
Now I have 2 problems...how well thing is going to play other games and games in the future
If someone would be nice enough to test at least one of these games on high and tell me fps I will love you, MW3,BF3,SKYRIM,CRYSIS,WITCHER 2, METRO 2033.
I know I mentioned this on the other thread but how well do you think this will perform in future games??? I'm scared caus I don't want to be stuck playing things like bf3 while everyone else plays bf8 or something....do you notice major slowdowns in newer games?
Thanks and everyone pleasetry to contribute to this :D
P.S are there any future laptops around the same size as this to be released (11 inch 13 inch with better specs)

I wouldn't recommend the M11xR3 if you're wanting raw power to play the latest games with, I mean it handles the latest generation admirably but it's going to struggle pretty quickly unless you're willing to sacrifice details on future releases...

Mine can't handle Witcher 2 and Metro 2033 on more than medium, it's happy running the rest on high though.

Check out the review from this website, it covers almost every aspect: Review Alienware M11x R3 Gaming Notebook - Notebookcheck.net Reviews

To answer your question yes and no, It depends on if the game is a console port or not. If is not a console port it most likely will look better. If it is a port it will look the same or worse on medium.

wait till R4 releases thats what I am doing, kepler + Ivy = pure win. Both are die shrinks. that is if you can wait, I would expect it to release in July. I have the m11x R1 pin modded atm and it works fine for the time being but I need a upgrade soon.

So the technology hasn't been released, they haven't announced it, but you're spreading rumors that it will be released in 4 months?

Nope. The m14x is probably the closest you're going to get to best gaming system of that size. Go buy a ps3 or xbox if you're looking to play console games

Yep. There isn't a real big pool of selection, however 2 contenders will soon be entering the ring:

Acer Aspire V3 notebook hands-on (video) -- Engadget

The 14" version is coming out soon (few months), which seems to be the closest match.

Their current 13.3" 3830 has a 540m in it for 529$ new in Canada, so I assume the V3 will have a better GPU since it's the 3830's replacement.

But then again, if you go Acer, you lose out on a few things (next-day on site warranty; build quality; alien fx; awesome keyboard/touchpad, etc.).

    --------------------------------------

And finally, we have the LG P330, which was just released in Asia (South Korea, I think).

    13.3"; i5 (2nd gen); nVidia 555m (same as M14X); 40GB SSD; 640GB HD:

    http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/07/lgs-thin-and-mighty-p330-laptop-surfaces-at-korean-retailer/

    Pros:
    - 40GB SSD standard
    - Same GPU as the M14X (according to reports)
    - Lighter & Thinner

    Cons:
    - Keyboard / Touchpad (Alienware is better in this respect)
    - Warranty (mail-in to depot; Alienware is next-business day)
    - Resolution is possibly 1366x768
    - i7 possibly not available (articles claim i5, some i7)
    - Possible Heat Issues
    - 640GB HD Standard is possibly 5400rpm

How well it does with heat under gaming loads has yet to be determined. It'll either be a WIN, or an overheating toaster.

I know this isn't quite what you asked for.... but I have an R2 core i7 OC'd to 160 (about 1.9-2.0Ghz), no other OC's, 8GB Ram (G.Skil) and the Momentus Hybrid HDD- With this setup I've been playing, MW3, Everquest2, Skyrim, Borderlands, Bioshock2 and about to get ME3. MW3 and Skyrim ran far better than expected.

The GPU in your R3 is of course better, but I've read games like Skyrim will take advantage of a faster CPU, so a question might be, would it run better on an R3 with a Core 13 or my R2 with the i7...

*MW3- on High, 2XAA, AF off and VSync off, Displayport out to 24in1900x1200 monitor- Getting about 30-50FPS depending on map, but totally playable and game looks better than Xbox360 by far!

*Skyrim- on High/Med setting (I let the system set), 4xAA, Displayport out to 24in 1900x1200 monitor- game looks amazing! I cut distance rendering down a little and turned down some lighting and water effects, All shadows off. About 20-40 FPS. Depending on dungeon, Outdoors or city. When played on the built in screen at full res, I can set all on High, crank up some AA and other eye candy and get about the same FPS, but game looks even better. About as good looking as XBox on ext monitor, easily twice as good looking on the built in.

    Hope this helps.

Over a year later and my R2 is going strong and playing everything I throw at it! I keep it tethered to the 1900x1200 most of the time now. It truly is a little monster!

How do you change your res? Do you just use intel's custom settings?

He specifically said "tethered" so i can only imagine he means to a TV or something. My M11x is always running @ 1920x1080 cos it's always hooked up to my 42" plasma.

Yes, Rishwen is correct, in my first post/reply I said that I've played those games with my R2 connected via displayport to a 24 inch monitor that is running at 1900x1200 res.

I just wanted to mention that now I mainly leave my R2 connected to that monitor (I just don't bring it along with me as much as I used to) and that it works great set up like this. The higher rez and output to an ext screen doesn't slow anything down day to day
