    Hello
Lately I am having problems with my laptop. After about 10 - 15 minutes of Fifa 12 (using power saver mode with AC) game starts lagging and temperature goes way up to almost 80 celsius or maybe more. Switching to full power doesn't help. I have used my laptop on bed alot and on my lap, it takes more dust there, can that be the problem or can there be anything else. I don't want to open my computer case because it might void the warranty. I bought the computer last year end of november. What should I do? Should the warranty cover this?

    Specs:
    Intel Core i5-2467M 3MB/1.6GHz,

    NV GeForce GT 540M/DDR3 1GB,

    2x2048MB DDR3-1333,

    SATA 500GB 7200rpm,

Right fella you will have to open up your M11x, the HSF assembly will be full of dust, this drops the ability of the laptop to cool itself properly, once the system reaches >80 'c the GPU and CPU will throttle until the temp drops.

So l suggest you do the following.

    1. Clean HSF with compressed air.
    2. Purchase a Laptop cooler/pad to keep it off the bed and help with cooling.
    3. You may need to get the GPU/CPU re-pasted. (Approach Dell if you are not happy doing it yourself)

    Regards.

Dust cleaning seemed to do get my temp better, but I'm still getting a cooling pad. Does anyone know which one to get?

Power saving mode is also creating more heat, if you're just using the default profiles then Power Saving uses passive cooling, not active cooling. You should always be gaming in high Performance mode.

CoolerMaster Notepal x3. The fan size is about the m11x lol, and you can adjust the rps manually on the side. I got it as a gift :D the bottom of my m11x is cold lol.

Thanks for advice, I'll look into it.

Last question: What are normal temperatures of alienware m11x when gaming on high end and when just watching movies and browsing internet?
After cleaning I get browsing the webs like youtube, or watching movies about 50 C
When playing Fifa in ultra settings I get about 70-80 C peaking in 90, though no lag. These test were made on a table. Also I have to mention that there was no recalled lag in game. Laptop's upper side and keyboard were quite cool, but below was a bit hotter.
All these temperatures include CPU and GPU.
    Are these normal temperatures?

Yep those are perfectly normal temps, that's just slightly above what i'm getting though i'm using an SSD and have heatsinks on my RAM (plus it's winter :p). At the moment typing this i'm at 38-40 degrees on battery in balanced mode. Sitting on 45-50 while streaming in 1080p to my 42" plasma and the fan usually comes on a bit.
