The gpu and cpu are soldered to the board, so what you buy from the start is what your stuck with.

hmm, there is ONE thing you might be able to do, in about a year or so r3 Motherboards will be hitting Ebay (r2's are there now) if you can wait you can get one there

Assuming you are from the UK:

Logon to Dell Special Offers, Cheapest Deals, E-Value Codes and Discount Coupons | dmXdimension and navigate to M11x deals (Laptops > Alienware M11x).

Select the middle i5 model listed at £799 and take a note (copy to clipboard) of the 15% coupon.

Add the laptop to your basket on the dell website (following the link on dmxdimension) and apply the coupon copied above.

    Presto a i5 based (i5 2467um 1.6-2.3) M11x R3 (with 6GB memory, 1GB GT540m, 500GB HD, Killer NIC etc) for £679.

The outlet model would be a little over £500 with VAT added to the extra spend is certainly worth it (the SB based i3 is totally pointless as it doesn't have any OC ability and also doesn't have turbo boost).
