I had the same problem, my first m11x I had them replace the sound card, no change in volume. then I got another m11x and the sound was still super quiet compaired to my desktop (using same headphone)

    I use the tactx headphones.

I think its just the way these things are, sucks when your on a airplane near the engine cause you cant watch movies.

I have looked into USB headphone amps, but cant find much that I like.

This one seems to be the smallest

I've found with mine it just depends on which environment I'm in. If I'm at home in a quiet room and there's no noise, I usually have to tone it down to about 55% volume as it almost seems too loud. I hooked my PSP-1001 up to it the other night just for fun, through the line-in/mic jack. too bad I can't play Ghost of Sparta on the monitor as well. :)

What type of headphones do you use?
The sound is perfect with my Creative in-ear headphones and with my Creative Fatal1ty headset :)
I never turn it all the way up. 30% max with my in-ears and about 60% with the headset.

Oh if you're using a headphone try to navigate control panel and then realtek HD audio manager, under SRS tab, adjust Center/Space to 70%
Bass to 100%, focus and definition to 50% and you should notice a good volume boost :)
    Try it!

I will try that; thank you for the suggestion.
But yeah 100% on both application and headphones its neerly impossible to hear anything on a plane or at the laundry mat. While my phone or my other laptop on the same source material i can hear just fine.
