i apologize if this has been answered already, i couldn't find mention of it before.

i have an m11xr2 and i'm pretty sure there's kitty litter and some other gunk underneath some of its keys. do the keys safely pop out like other laptops? i'd like to get in there and clean underneath.

    thanks!

Button, it is better not to shoot, because there are very fragile legs. I'm so broke one. Just drop that module and clean it with warm water, then dry.

I've broken a good many laptop keys by trying to pop them up to clean underneath them. If you can, it's much better to do what dyriax suggested - remove the keyboard module itself and clean it outside of the case. There are teardown / service videos on youtube, from what I hear.

You could always get a can of compressed air and blow the junk out.

    This works.

But be sure to remove your keyboard first. If you don't, then all you're doing is blowing that junk deeper into the laptop chassis.

Yup.. I half broke 4 keys trying to pop them out a few days ago after spilling my pop on my keyboard and trying to take them off to clean the sticky soda off it. :( How do you get new parts or keyboards if its not under warranty?

I managed to stick a single key. I just took off the keyboard and gently washed under warm water.

I do this myself. I've also tried that yellow CyberClean "goop" that they sell in cans. It reminds me of the old Nickelodeon slime I used to play with as a kid.

Use deionized water if available to prevent corrosion and possible static discharging across any circuits. Then dump alcohol over it immediately (the kind you can buy at the pharmacy). That will bond with the water and prevent further corrosion. Over 90% is a good idea. You could just dump alcohol on it to start with and not have to worry about the water.

I played with that stuff for about 4 hours when i got it XD

Also don't remove any keys. I tried to remove a key on my m11x before and damaged it.

Taking the keyboard out on this laptop is a lot of work, and you can possibly break the LED function if you aren't careful. I wouldn't recommend this if you aren't comfortable with taking the laptop apart (and unseating cables without destroying them in the process...)

The good thing is that there is a tray that sits under the keyboard, so it's VERY unlikely that you will actually blow particles into the chassis.
