I'm interested in getting the mx11 but am not sure which processor I should get.

Currently, there is a special price for the i5 with 8GB of RAM that expires tomorrow morning. I'm not sure if I should get the i7 with 4GB of RAM or the i5 special with 8GB of RAM. Both specifications are approximately the same price.

Am mainly looking for gaming on the go, word processing and presentations.

Would be interested in hearing people's thoughts.

    Thanks

You won't need 8 gigs unless you're doing crazy CAD/Video Editing/Photoshop stuff. And in that case, my guess is you wouldn't be using an M11x :p I'd spring for the i7, but that's just me.

You won't notice the difference with the more ram I would go with i7 but if you add the speed of the processors I can make a more informed judgement.

please dont just consider that the processor is an i5 or i7. some i5's (540m for example) is faster than the i7 (xxxLM series).
and ram comes in two useful speeds 1066 and 1333. if the processor wont support the ram speed the upgrade doesnt help.
here is one (of several available) processor benchmarks: PassMark - CPU Benchmarks - List of Benchmarked CPUs
good question but an answer needs a little more info.
you can look up the answer now, anytime you need to. -hubs-

This is my first non-Mac computer so I am so used to there only being one type of processor.

    Here are my two options:

    i5 520UM (3m Cache, 1.066 GHz with 1.866 GHz Max Turbo Frequency)
8GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 900 MHz RAM

    i7 640UM (4M cache, 1.2 GHz with 2.66 GHz Max Turbo Frequency)
4GB Dual Channel DDR3 at 900 MHz RAM

Go with the i7. Best choice there.

Agrees w/ Zswickliffe for all gaming purposes. (i7 640um)
Would consider more RAM, only, if doing heavy photo editing.
I forgot the 11's run on 900Mhz RAM, my bad. -hubs-

    No-brainer snap up the i7!
