    MODDED NVIDIA DRIVERS 260.89 BETA

Disclaimer: I'm just the middle man, and keep in mind this are meant for desktop cards, but have been modded for the Alienware m11x R2 users. These are also BETA drivers, so expect some problems. I'm not responsible for anything done to your system, I've warned you!

Nvidia says this driver greatly improves desktop 4xx cards performance compared to the 258.96 drivers, so if we can get a modded driver working, we may see some jumps on our 335s, including:

Here it is guys. modded to work with Optimus. I have repackage the file like I always did. So just extract it anywhere you wish and run the setup will do.

I have only done couple of test to make sure they work with my games so I cant be sure if everything would work as it should. Since these are originally meant for desktop and had no Optimus support which I add on to it so I cant be sure how stable it can be either. However it's running fine on my machine so I suppose it should be same for all the R2 fellows out there. As usual this driver dont come with any warranty of any sort. I cant be responsible if it breaks anything. So install at your own risk! Have fun testing guys....

If someone can upload to more links it would be great too since with my limited bandwidth I cant do as many. :)

it does improve my FFXIV by about 5-10% on avg thou its not listed in the change log. Also It seems to have improve IQ too. I even see extra stuffs that I dont see with 260.63.

This driver is only for the R2 correct?

If not do I just DL it from the link in the first post by djjosherie?

    R1 and R2.

R2 can still use optimus, R1 must forcibly disable the Intel GPU.

Its becuz of the way Optimus work in the past have change. In the past in Optimus mode there is only 1 D3D call done by your Intel Display while all your apps will only see Intel as your main display and will not know the existence of your Nvidia GPU. Now things have change that the Nvidia GPU will poll itself to show it's existence to your application as well. Which will cause 2 D3D device to be active instead of the formerly one. The benefit of this is usually it tends to give a slight performance increase. Also by allowing your app to see the GT335M, your gfx settings in game will all change to allow what your GPU is really capable as in the past without this a lot of your settings are being grounded. I dont even see things like 16xCSAA

yes this is for R2. I have never modded anything for R1 for anyone who knows me in this forum. Since I dont have R1 myself to test with I dont want to put out too much risk to ppl. And also R1 modding is much more complicated than it is when compared to R2 stuffs. I am still not up to that. Nautis is more expert in that field.

Yes you can always disable the Intel and run discrete for R1 with Nvidia GPU. But I never explore R1 drivers before. I am not sure the exact difference in the drivers for such scenario. As far as I understand when I am modding it for R2 I have to ensure that Optimus support is there before the whole driver thing will work. So in short if Optimus support is not done correctly drivers can be installed successfully but Optimus will break totally. No games will be able to use the Nvidia GPU in such case. And R2 users do not have such option as to go discrete. If you wish to try this driver on your R1 by all means its up to you. Since I am really not sure what it brings to your machine. Hope this clarify :)

Not that I am aware of until now. Run a couple of quick test with few games like Mass Effect 2, Killing Floor and Tomb Raider Guardians of the Light all works as it should. But I never really play thru them since the amount of time is too short. But the more intensive one I did try was with FFXIV Online and it works flawlessly even after hours running. Plus I do see slight performance increase as well as IQ improvement on this driver compared to 260.63

This is another driver that Punkbuster does not play nice with.

I'm resigned to just stick with the crappy 189.97 drivers at this point. Otherwise I'll never play this machine.

I had 36 games installed on this machine via Steam. Since only 10 of those wouldn't work with 189 and most did, including the two new games I bought - Darksiders and Front Mission Evolved (which was a nice sigh of relief). Since I plan to play Medal of Honor it looks like it's 189 for me until it gets fixed or there's a game that I have to play that needs an updated driver.

Hopefully the rumors of a fix in 30-60 days are true. If not, Optimus is a bust for Nvidia.

Thanks for the work though Kopicha. We wouldn't have any drivers at all without you.

R1 needs a custom nVidia API to interface with the Intel GPU's drivers (from the Optimus whitepapers explaining why Switchable GFx drivers are "bad" :p).

I've tried, from the "Sony Z Optimus" thread, the drivers from pg 32 on my m11x r1. Optimus works, just the nVidia GPU doesn't power all the way down (confirmed with power draw stats from batteybar pro) when not in use. It's fun, to say the least.

I used to think switchable GFx was a nice "hard switch" function. But after using it for about 2 weeks, it's not so awesome, anymore. Too much annoyance from using it, and I already removed most blocking apps. ASAP, I'm making the jump to a M11x R2.

sorry to hear that... i had BFBC2 as well. But after so many games that releases and some really do need the newer drivers I have already gave up on BFBC2 and move on with newer drivers and "hopefully" a real fix will come by soon enough. Since I have another game that I could not play due to nProtect which has similar issue of being kick out of the game just like Punkbuster. But I think I just have to live with it for the time being while giving myself time to focus on other games and hopefully by time I am done with other stuffs I can go back to what I have missed....

As long as SC2 works, I am fine. :D (second reason behind why I want the R2 - faster CPU).

spam the nvidia optimus forums... maybe they will answer the call to fix the Punkbuster issue since those Punks don't have a discussion board.
