    13:11:22 raghava_reddy_varala Hello Dan
    13:11:25 dan hello
13:11:49 raghava_reddy_varala What is the initial price of the laptop, you are looking at ?
    13:11:53 raghava_reddy_varala or an E value code
13:12:03 raghava_reddy_varala The E value code is the N00... number
    13:12:50 dan
yesterday i have put in an order for a m11x r2 i7--- when you customise the
laptop the memory says its 800mhz memory, is that correct as it seems
    incorrect
    13:13:15 raghava_reddy_varala I am afraid no Dan
13:13:20 raghava_reddy_varala This is not the memory or Ram
13:13:25 raghava_reddy_varala it is the Processor Speed
    13:13:30 raghava_reddy_varala May i have the order number ?
13:13:47 raghava_reddy_varala so that i can check the Ram on the laptop that you have ordered
    13:15:37 dan
i dont have the order number to hand, the 800mhz memory is on this page
Error Encountered - The Dell Online Store

    13:15:54 dan i purchased 4GB
    13:16:07 raghava_reddy_varala N00W1X01 comes with 2 GB Ram
13:16:20 dan that page is an example
    13:16:28 raghava_reddy_varala alright
13:16:33 dan all the memory says 800mhz
13:16:40 raghava_reddy_varala This laptop comes with 2 GB Ram
13:16:50 raghava_reddy_varala it is the processor speed
13:16:55 raghava_reddy_varala and the memory is 2 GB
13:17:18 dan you are not making any sense, if you would like me to start again
13:17:59 raghava_reddy_varala The Ram on the laptop or the memory is different which is measured in GB
13:18:21 raghava_reddy_varala and the one you are looking at " 800 MHz " is the speed of the Processor
13:18:29 raghava_reddy_varala They are two different components
13:19:24 raghava_reddy_varala And the Ram or Memory on this laptop is 2 GB or 2048 MB

13:20:38 dan the i7 runs at 1.2ghz not 800mhz that you are talking about

All i simply want to know is if the memory i am getting is pc3-8500 or pc3-10600??? just out of curiosity

as soon as i get the laptop i will be upgrading to 8GB, although im not sure whether to get the pc3-8500 with faster timings, or the pc3-10600 with slower timings, so if anyone can advise on that, that will be appreciated :)

    thankyou

I believe it will come with 1066mhz ram, thats what my r1 came with, but it'll be under clocked to 800mhz. You can really put any speed in there but its gonna go to waste. I think 1066 is your best bet. Also, im not sure what you'll be doing with your laptop, but if its just for everyday usage and gaming, 4gb is plenty, and you wont see a noticeable difference with 8gb.

so even though the pc3-10600 (1333mhz) is compatible, its pointless? as it runs slower?

why does the memory only run at 800mhz?

Because it'll automatically set a fsb:memory clock ratio that puts it at 800mhz. Not sure about the i7 but when overclock my c2d its still reporting 800mhz. Even if your ram frequency is bumped up when you overclock your i7 it wont pass the 1066mhz mark, so 1333 is a waste.

edit: with a maximum 166mhz overclock on your i7 it wont go past 1000mhz. just looked that up. So get better timing instead of faster ram.

ah thankyou for that, makes sense to me.
so when i go to the dell website and look at the memory that dell recommends for an m11x r2, they are actually totally ripping people off?!

Memory - Accessories | Dell UK

£200 per 4gb stick of 1333mhz memory that runs at 800mhz

youd think they would have pc3-8500 as an option and cheaper?

The UK R2 comes with 1333 memory (Hyundai on my system). And it overclocks to 1002.2Mhz (max). And I don't know about current prices, but when I configured my system back in August, going from 2GB to 4GB was an extra £50.

I got an R2 a month or so ago, it's the ELS edition (i7, 4GB)

    2x2048 GB sticks, samsung M471B5773CHS-CH9
    CPU-Z has it as PC3-10700 (667Mhz)

If you've not ordered yet and want an i7, I'd suggest looking at the ELS edition - it's a good price for the spec, very good.

Oh and quidco works on top :)

    Nox

lol so far reading through various threads, alot of people seem to get different ram... anyway, ive already ordered the m11x and yes it was the ELS edition, although i never knew about quidco :(

the memory that shows 667mhz... isnt it supposed to show as 800mhz?
still trying to get my head around all these different speeds that are being mentioned around the forum lol

    Thanks anyway....

oh are you happy with your ELS? cant wait for mine to come!

Memory speeds are actually quite confusing. I didn't understand the CPUz values until I read another thread. The 667 Mhz is the actual speed of the RAM, however, something doubles to give you a more familiar 1333 Mhz. Granted, this is the max speed of the RAM, it still gets downclocked to 800 (or 400 depending on how you look at it). Don't worry too much about it, it is what it is.

im trying not to take too much notice about the memory, but then some different information pops up, and im like hmmmm, but what about this etc... then all of a sudden im roped in again!

i will be upgrading the memory as soon as the system arrives, im looking to get the slower 8GB PC3-8500 with better timings

You're assuming that slower is cheaper.

It's probably easier and cheaper for Dell to buy a single kind of RAM (DDR3-1333) that is compatible with all of their laptops, rather than have to keep three different kinds of RAM (800/1066/1333) in stock.

Considering dell sell various types of ram, I think its possible to have a range available. And more so with the prices they charge per stick.
