So i've been reading around on this forum for a few weeks now doing my homework, and I decided to purchase the m11X. I read the arguments for and against, overpriced, too small and blah blah.

But I'm currently deployed and most of the time my laptop sits on my...well lap, stomach, while laying down. (woot warm bellys and the inventions of cooling pads). Well since it was going to take another month to get it shipped to APO, I had it shipped to my wife and she has already shipped it off to me. So now its just the waiting game.

I also picked up Skyrim, and shift 2. I also picked up a used CD drive from a buddy and a Logitech controller.

Same spec as mine at stock you will enjoy it :) I know Shift 2 runs fine on it but Skyrim really is special how well it runs considering.

    Enjoy :)

Thanks, its my first top end anything. (Desktop or laptop) typically I go for the 400 dollar one, but decided to spoil myself a little this time.

I was the same always wait two years for something thats been out and get it cheap it was because of money mostly but always looking for a bargain. Sometimes it is nice to get something that is up to date and I am certainly glad I got mine.

I spend more time on it than my Clevo which cost twice as much but wouldn't get rid of either both have their own uses when the mrs wants the TV ;)

You won't regret it, as Yiddo has pointed out it is a little power house. You will be nicely surprised at the lack of bloat ware on this bad boy, pick up some 2*4GB Kingston HyperX( Has heatsinks fitted) or 2*4GB Corsair Vengeance, and later on if you want throw in an SSD (Crucial M4 pretty good) and watch if fly.

Btw stay away from poo pond if you are in that neck of the woods :D

    Regards.

As above, you won't regret it at all.

I don't game as often as I'd like to on mine, but when I do, it flies.

It's amazing how something as small as a M11x can run games at decent settings.

Fitting a SSD should be the first you do, I can't stand hard drives, they're too slow for me. >: I purchased 128GB Crucial M4 SSD shortly after getting mine, fitted that in and used the stock hard drive it came with (750GB) as an external hard drive.

I could repeat what everyone has said but there is no point really. I've had mine just over a week and it's amazing. Skyrim is the balls, and it can run capably at high settings, even ultra although maybe not quite as smoothly. Skyrim is amazing, such a good game, cannot get enough. I've quickly tried BF3 and Crysis 2 and again, both are beautiful, BF3 looks amazing although cannot be pushed quite so far, I've had it crash on me once or twice when I was attempting to push up the graphics.

For what I want (gaming on the sofa in front of the TV) it is perfect. Although it has reignited my gaming fire and I'm tempted by a desktop counterpart now. I've caught the bug! It may be a high premium, but you get what you pay for!

Skyrim on the M11x is awesome, can chill in bed when the mrs is asleep and go on an adventure without any performance issues if you are in the army and need a release from what is going on around you the M11x with certainly help with that.

Really for Battlefield 3 to even run at all let alone above 30fps is pretty bonkers to be honest a ULV and very mid range GPU running Frostbite 2 shows how good these little processors are.

I was shocked how small the DIE is when I got inside to take a look no bigger than an ATOM. ;)

@Tomcannon: Consider my pairing (sig) a high powered Clevo with its gorgeous alluminium casing go great together ;)

i was considering the SSD but it seemed a little high on costs, I would love to find a buddy with one so I could play around with it, maybe that would sell me on. Hopefully they start to become a little more standard and comedown in price.

CEUOTC, That place is the scariest place in country, I dread every time going there, it smells so bad....and the smoothies seem to suck all your money away. How do they do it!?

Stay away form the smoothies and head for the coffee and doughnuts while making sure you throw in plenty of Gym time :D Aye l really wish they would "fix" poo pond, some days it's like chewing the air lol.

Wrt the SSD, the HHD is fast enough once in, l am a bit of a SSD fan :D

Keep your head down fella and remember what a belt buckle is for.

    Regards.

Thanks Ceuotc, I try to stay away from the doughnuts, but its just so hard, that place drains my money every time I go there.

Anyone have any recommendations for a bag? It doesn't have to be AW brand, just something that will make it easy to transport something this size.

Get the m11x neoprene official sleeve. I checked out the bag as well but the sleeve is very smart.

Fits perfectly in a draw string nike bag.

    +1 to Yiddo suggestion.

Aye the neoprene sleeve is good, it is a "little" tight at first, however once it has been fitted a few times, you get the knack.

    Good bit of kit.

I have a 13" STM scout laptop bag. It's the shizz! Tight cushioned fit and plenty of storage space in a surprisingly small package! I can fit my m11x, belkin cooling pad, samsung external DVD, razer deathadder mouse, razer n52te game pad, iPad and plenty of dvds. It isn't big or heavy in the slightest. Maybe a little pricey but well worth it. Plus it's goregeous!

Just curious, as another new owner of an R3, are there any tips to oolong the battery life? My R1's battery died completely after two years of decent use. Maybe that was due to being constantly overclocked in the BIOS?

I just want to make sure that I take care of my R3 battery as best as possible.

Really the best thing is to fully deplete the battery each time and recharge it this keeps it calibrated also. But these batteries are similar to netbooks in that they are hard wearing and the R3 battery is the hardest of the lot.

Batteries normally drain and wear when they are discharged too fast which is why big laptop always suffer with a battery that wears quickly this shouldn't have that problem. You don't really need to worry but if you want to save battery life turn off all the lighting and drum down the brightness and stick to the HD card instead of the 540M GT.

It is good to spoil yourself sometimes as other have mentioned.

I've had mine for months and every time I open it up I still have a great appreciate for the laptop (build; look; material).

alienware orion portfolio case<---my post with pictures of my R2 from another thread...
not only does it look super sleek and cool  it ALSO flips inside/out to become a vented laptop tray with plenty of airflow from the mesh vent underneath. you can use it on a desk or on your lap without burning your thighs up. my R2 never leaves the portfolio case, i also don't have to worry about the little rubber feet falling off from constant use.
