I am wondering what everyones normal CPU usage % is at a idle on there R1? Also what do you do to lower it? Mine is setting at around 13-15% CPU usage at a idle.

ROFL. Thats pretty bad I think. Mines 0-3%

It should be 0% idle with a second or two of spikes to 3%.

You may have too many services running.

Look at the thread concerning what you can disable in the msconfig.exe

It's pretty easy to lower, just look at the task manager, figure out what is hogging up all the cpu, and then disable it! For %15 usage there should be an obvious culprit. Im pretty sure everyone hovers at 0%(zero)

    1% to 3% on i7, sometimes it gets to 10% @@
    112 processes running o_O
Edit: looks like the turbo boost technology monitor is the culprit *giggles*

0-1% at idle on R1. Make sure to disable AlienFX using msconfig; that alone brought be down to zero from about 6-7% at idle.

Does the CPU % that it is running at idle, does it lower the performance of the computer while playing games or just in general? I like the Alien FX because I use the backlight keyboard at night while in bed. Also the stardock for the theme that I have going I like as well. If I turn them both off in the MSCONFIG then I am not able to use them. Basicly will this lower the performance in over all of the laptop?

0-3% CPU at idle, anything more than that and it makes the fan go off all the time. And yes, if your a gamer, high idle cpu usage REALLY ruins your day.

P.S. Disabling the the processes for Alien FX and related will NOT disabled the led lights for the keyboard and other light areas. It will only disable the ability to turn them on and off (I believe so, this is what it did for me).

0% at idle on an M11xR1.

Then when my alien arm kicks in and goes wild with the mouse, it'll leap up to 10%, then idle back to 0%. :)

If I convert a HD movie from one format to another, the CPU can sit at 80-95% for over an hour. ;) Depending on format.

crystalsnow is correct Alien FX chews up background CPU.

Task Manager -> Resource Monitor can help identify CPU, Disk access and resource allocation.

    1. Disable anything alienware in msconfig on startup.
    2. Make sure anything alienware is set to "manual" start in services.msc
    3. Make sure all virus scan or spyware is active during surf time but disabled during game time. (Just remember to re-activate after gaming). Yes Virus, Firewall, Defender and anything related to system safety usual impact performance.
    4. Scan your taskmgr to see if anything is eating CPU. Suspects include Audio enhancements, Network Enhancements, Visual crap like widgets.

Go forth and conquer. Remember, Every Frame Counts!
