I know i have made several threads on here recently...but im tired of dealing with dells poor tech support. everytime i ring up i get through to foreign unenthusiatic 'support' and i get nowhere...so i'd rather try and fix the problem elsewhere.
Ive had my m11x r1 now for about a month maybe 5 weeks. From the first day it would freeze randomly while either watching a video from HD...streaming on the web...or simply browsing the web. a monotone would come from the laptop and it would be completely unresponsive - so i had to shut it down and back up again.
i re-installed windows 7 64bit and for a while it seemed to do the trick...but jst recently it froze on me again.
Does any1 know what the hell is going on with this laptop?![]()

At first you should check hardware. For RAM it is Memtest86+. Also try to leave only 1 stick of RAM in laptop and see if it continue crashing. Then exchange sticks.
HDD. Try HDTune, and windows checkdisk.
Software. I know AMD/ATI vcards have bad drivers. look at it.
to be continued... -
im sorry...but am i being naive in thinking when i buy a laptop (especially the top end ones like alienware) that it should just work without me pulling it to peices?
im not a massive computer guru so when it comes to testing and installing drivers..i dont really know what im doing -
THIS is what happens (first one) but its not from plugging the AC in...it just randomly does it while i browse the web or watch a video.
Alienware Fail - YouTube -
Is it your youtube video?
Anyway. I have never used memtest86+ before but I know that you should download it, and check your RAM. And you should make that check not when you logged in Windows but either bootable external device made by Memtest or somehow else. But I know that even noobs after thay were told to "check RAM by Memtest86+" managed it well.
When you install Hdtune just check HEALTH menu first. Then if there will be no Attentions or Warnings go to another menu Error Scan. -
thanks for the reply mate.
no not my video i was jst showing what happens to mine randomly. its fine when i plug the power in. it jst randomly freezes (like the first time in the video) while watching a video on the web or from HDD...or even while browsing the web.
ive tried my computer with each bit of ram (2x ddr3 2gb) and it crashed both times so i think dell are going to replace the MOBO. does this mean ill get a new cpu and gpu etc?? -
yeah all in one.
What graphics mode are you in? Try switching mode. Overclocked? If so, try turning off. -
its froze in both graphic modes (i usually use power saving so my bat life is 6-7 hours). and it also froze without it and with it being over clocked.
-
If they will replace motherboard then most likely processor stays the same while depending on GPU type (MXM or not) it will be new or old.
But who knows what is wrong with it. Better Asus Tech check it. -
theyre replacing whole mobo and both memory rams. so a new cpu/gpu and 2xrams...if this doesnt sort it god knows what will !?
-
had the mobo replaced...and also they upgraded my ram from 2x 2gb to 2x4gb
wooo haha
-
It's good to have faulty laptop if it's under warranty, ha?
-
sure is...u can complain about any little thing and get it replaced/upgraded
and i plan on getting as much as i can from dell
-
Nope, I can't. I live in Ukraine while laptop is from USA. Even if it is worldwide it is almost impossible to send it to EU service center.
I have this faulty LCD from the beginning. Food that it almost disappears and is barely seen after 1 minute.
