after a good full year of gaming with this laptop it has begun to start overheating and having quite alot of micro stutters in games. it also has lower performance, lower battery life and lower average frames in games then when i first got it.

i do not have a notebook cooler but im getting one soon, other then that is there anything i can do to improve my performance or revert it back to when i first bought it?

btw i have read and used the m11x optimization thread.

Someone recently posted about sealing a vacuum hose to the bottom air intake and sucking out whatever dust might have been in there to great effect. It supposedly helped with heat and performance issues. Blowing out the air channel on the M11x effectively is somewhat difficult without doing a fairly deep teardown.

While this may be extreme for most users, it is just one of those tasks you love to hate. I rely on my laptops for everything so they get a tear down every so often and make sure everything is clean. While a PITA and extended amount of maintenance its well worth it in my opinion.

I agree about a periodic full cleaning. Like a lot of people here (presumably at least) I'm one of those people who doesn't feel like they've gotten to know their notebook unless they've seen it stripped down.

However, in the case of the M11x it really does need to be almost a complete teardown in order to gain the necessary access to the fan chamber so that you aren't blowing dust further into the internals. While that might be fine for you and me, I'd venture that most people here aren't willing to bother. The vacuum option actually sounds like it's a pretty effective alternative. My only concern would be a static discharge.

I agree 100%. Most users do not wish to delve that far into the internals of a notebook. I too like the idea of the vacuum cleaner, but would never try it due to the static.

    WITH YOU 100%

while im in there i normally take the HSF off the mobo, wash it and do a good lapping job while im at it. but i guess you would call us hobbyists, and maybe not a typical owner?

i cant wait to take mine apart! :)
