ok so whenever i open up wow, or any other game...(tried warcraft 3, LoL, and warhammer online), My computer almost immediately goes black, the sound freezes up and begins to buzz. i canno control alt delete or alt f4 this. it forces me to hold the power button to restart.
ive installed all my drivers from the m11x part of the dell website... clean installed windows three times... tried several versions of the nvidia drivers... including the beta optional one on the dell website.. i recently uninstaled the accellerometer someone said that would help and didnt....
i bought this computer a year and a half ago and dell wont help me without extending warrently... or pay 120 for a one time software issue? cmon.
does this sound like a hardware or software issue? any advice is much appreciated... also my computer keeps installing the 4 nvidia hd audio drivers... i find that weird.... even though i have auto driver install off and windows/ update off...
i just talked to yet another computer repair service and they say it is bad sectors on my hard drive that are causing the issue... how does this sound to you guys.
thanks

Also try Windows inbuilt disk scan?
See what CrystalDiskInfo comes back with.

This happens randomly to me, all time time, but mid-game. You can always buy a new hard drive and install it yourself, instead of trying to get extension on warranty.

Health status is posted as good, your next stop is doing a full disk scan with windows to check for errors.
160GB is a little small in this day and age, you should be able to pick up a cheap 9.5mm 2.5" 7200 with more capacity.
However l don't think the HDD is at fault, you may also want to run a full malware check using Spybot Search and Destroy l have had issues with malware stopping correct software installing.
I take it you are running the r2 version.
Failing this see if you can borrow another hdd and install onto that.
Regards.

Also does this happen on AC and Battery?
See what happens if you remove the AC?
See what happens if you remove the Battery and run on AC?
Try switching the NV to be always on in settings.
Make sure games are white listed.
And finally try disabling audio devices.
Regards.
C. -
ok ive tried disabling audio devices...
tried running on battery, ran a disc defrag, installed to an external hd, same prob, so i dont think its the hd either.
i have an r1 i dont know if im running an r2 version. also an r2 version of what?
as for the whitelist, if i go to nvidia control panel and open an exe file to configure it will that alone put it on the white list? does any of this sound like its a physical hardware issue? or perhaps i installed drivers in the wrong order, or maybe am missing a driver? -
You cant white list things with the r1. The only thing you can do is turn the gpu on and off manually.
I will say this though, all of my games will crash right away if the gpu is off. So, make sure its on. -
M11x r2 i3/i5/i7 1st gen + GT335m.
M11x r3 i3/i5/i7 2nd gen + GT540m.
So if you have r1 as stated by ejohnson make sure it is switched onif it is check with GPU-z it is working, failing that l think your GPU maybe U/S.

I am running Intell rapid storage version 10.8.0.1003 on my desktop. Not sure about my m11x r3 will need to look in the morning. Asus N55SF also running the latest version 10.8.0.1003.
Try running this Intel Driver Utility. It should identify if any of your intel drivers are out of date or are valid/current.
Here is the latest version Intel® Rapid Storage Technology Smaller file is for eng, larger file is multi.
Hope this helps some.
