i have r3 i3 1.3ghz 2 gb ram GTX540
i got 2 gb version because dell asking 70£ extra for 2gb
but i also feel now that 2gb is not mutch when you open many appliactions etc
even some games load so slow and some games even jump and lag, its not like GPU lagg its more like loading time middle of game![]()
before i had laptop with 4gb but sometimes i even use that when i just keep opening websites etc, because i dont like to close websites after use, most times i run evrything under taskbar, obv its only 1.3ghz cpu so 4gb looks like right way to go but im not sure.
and what about warranty if i open my r3 and add extra ram?![]()
before i had laptop with p8400 2.2ghz and 4gb ram but if i run some tests like cinebench and winrar etc this i3 1.3 is like little bit faster.
ofc we know difference 2gb vs 4gb, but what are difference 4gb vs 8gb.
and what will be best option to buy new 4gb kit or just add 2 gb next to ram what i got now, only problem is that it should be similar what is in my r3 atm
SODIMM DDR3 - PC3-8500 - PC3-14900 (1866Mhz) - Scan.co.uk

but 1 more question r3 supporst max 1333mhz ddr?
-
you should get 8, I got 4 and with few tabs in browser I am forced to close it if I go to game. my pagefile is off so not to stress the ssd controller. just windows eats up nearly 2gb... and I litteraly got nothing in the background. these days even 4th aint enough... my gaming rig had 1gig and was epic... times sure change
also yeah it is 1333Mhz active clock. I think at least. wont feel much difference between the lower speed ones though. Also, i am unsure as to if its worth investing into 8gb ram on a I3 system, which is pretty much an R1 with a bit better GPU...
and as to difference between 4 and 8gb, 4 should do unless you'll play games with wide areas or use other memory consuming tasks.
and no it wont void your warranty. Check if theres 1x2gb or 2x1gb sticks in there. If there is 2gb bone, just get another 2gb bone of ram and be done with it, if its 2x1gb, i'd go for 8gb since you're pretty much replacing both of em anyways... -
OK thx alot cpuz shows ram run on dual channel so i bet its 2x1gb
-
Yea, get 4 gb if you want to save a couple bucks but these days RAM is so cheap you might as well get the 8gb's. also, yes the max supported RAM clockspeed is 1333 mhz, You can get higher clocking RAM if you want but it will always be running at 1333 (as opposed to 1866).

soz i bump this post but dont have money for 8gb
and i dont wanna add 2x2gb= 4 gb and maybe later i need more ram and i have to buy new kit
so is it ok if i add 1x4gb SO it will run only in singel channel 1x4gb and later i can add another 4gb stick if i need more, obv it will run only in singel channel but do i get performance hit if i run memory in singel channel, and maybe in half year i add another 4gb for dual channel?> -
Yea you can do that if you would like or maybe even leave one of the old sticks in so you have 6gb!
-
soz bump again i order 8gb. btw if i upgrade do i have to disconnect battery or its just fine if i turn off my laptop and change ram?
-
just turn it off, i never removed battery to replace ram or wifi card... anti-static wristband or something just to be safe, but i don't really wear wool or anything to make me staticy, so i rarely use it...
You can just to be safe, but i find that it is really unlikely to do anything bad like short it... It isn't hard though.
If you're paranoid about damaging it, unplug it, but it isn't really a high risk. -
when a dell tech came to do a repair to mine, he plugged the AC adapter in the wall and grounded himself on the outside metal on the plug that has the blue light on it. so in a pinch i guess that works lol...
-
lol or just touch something metal first
-
i add 8gb and it looks so awesome now, mutch mutch mutch better.
maybe i say something stupid now but is it possbile i get more battery life after upgrade ?? @ least it looks to me
r3 upgrade 4gb or 8gb
