    Hello :)
I need your help, I didn't know where to post but I believe this should be the right section. I need to make a comparison between the theoretical performances of the m11x r3 and a old device but I really suck with these things.

    r3:
    i7 2617M 1.5GHz
    GeForce GT 540M 2GB DDR3
    ram 6gb DDR3
    250 GB (7.200 rpm)

    old guy:
    core2duo P8600 2.4GHZ
    GeForce 9800M GT
    ram 4gb
    250 GB (7.200 rpm)
    1680x1050 screen

    both win7 home
How is the r3 compared to the other machine?
    Thanks!

If you ran some beanchmarks we could get an idea of what you "old" laptop can do. but just from a guess i dont think it will be night and day difference. yea the R3 might be faster and has newer tech but the chips in the R3 are ULV chips and the ones in your old laptop are standard voltage laptop parts which tend to have more punch compaired to ULV tech, even if the ULV tech is a tad newer.

    1) You can do even better than "theoretical"... if you run an actual benchmark program like 3DMark06 on your old machine, you get a score that you can directly compare with an Alienware M11x R3. That will give you an actual measurement of how much faster one computer is than another.

    P.S. The Alienware M11x R3 scores around 8000 in 3DMark06.

    2) If you are looking to buy the Alienware M11x R3 as a powerhouse gaming machine, forget about it. It's not a powerhouse gaming machine. It is not a bang-for-your-buck gaming machine. It is a portable gaming machine, and makes sacrifices in both power and price to achieve its small size.

If you're looking for the most powerful gaming machine, or the most powerful gaming machine at a certain price point, look elsewhere. If you want a portable machine above all else, then the M11x will fit the bill.

the 9800m gt is better then the GT540 in the R3. keep your old notebook, its more powerful.
the 9800gt gets about 9500 on 3dm06 stock, the gt540 gets about 8k.

    Thanks guys.
Sadly I can't provide benchmarks because I'm not the direct owner of the two machines :( that's why I was looking for a theoretical comparison but I believe you answered me anyway :)

Well just a guess, the old pc will be more powerfull in general due to the nonULV parts.

But we just wanted at least a 3Dmark06 of the old pc to compair to the scores of the R3 that have been posted here.

If you know the model number of the older laptop you will be able to find reviews with the benchmarks, there just compare, Google is your friend.
