    Hello all!

I am looking to buy a new laptop and i am seriously considering the m11x. I am a student so i will be using the computer for alot of paper writing/projects etc but i also want to be able to use photoshop watch and edit videos and other do multimedia tasks. though i won't be doing any serious gaming i am considering the m11x because i heard it is a really powerful portable laptop that would be able to handle any multimedia tasks with ease.

do you all think that this laptop will fit my needs?
please! i welcome any sujestions on what to do

Can't say on the photoshop since I havn't used photoshop on it. Not sure how the CPU would handle it. If you check the thread in my sig, it may help get a good price. Also since your said your a student you'd be able to get the EPP discount. Or at least should. I just posted a thing about the new EPP discount. Last post on the thread Ordering thread..

Sounds like the m11x fits your needs. I myself am I student and when I don't feel like sitting at my desktop to type my papers I usually go outside with my m11x and type out there. As for photoshop, I also have not used the program on it yet. Something I've been meaning to install but I've just been lazy lol.

photoshop cs4 is gpu accelerated (though only for fickle things like rotating and stuff)

i've used cs4 on a laptop with integrated graphics (x3100) and a pentium dual core clocked at 1.8Ghz, and it was perfectly fine there. that said, i never manipulate very large files (the biggest being a one off 300mb file)

hell, I used photoshop on my Asus EEE (after upgrading to 2GB) for basic editing tasks without any sluggish performance.

I have Photoshop CS4 running on my m11x and it runs fine. I also had it on my Netbook (Typical atom 1.6GHZ CPU , 2GB RAM) and that ran it fine also. I use y m11x for everything you described and it runs great. I also do the occasional 3D modeling with CAD programs, that runs fine also.

I don't do nothing major in photoshop and for me it works well. If you're doing some kind of serious design with large resolution photos, then probably won't be that great.

But as you guys said, CS4 (and CS5 is I presume) GPU accelerated - so it can make use of your GPU (which is a pretty decent GPU) in addition to CPU.

Video editing I can't say ... what kind of stuff you planning to do?

for converting videos, su7300 does feel a bit slow compare to my hp laptop with t9400.
Let me put it this way. If my hp took 5 mins to convert an video clip, m11x prob would need 7 min.

As far as I'm aware of, photoshop etc would run fine if not great on it. The only problem you would have is that it would take longer than a full-fledge c2d processor.
