Has anyone ever had this before? I just noticed it now but theres about 4 or 5 specs of dust stuck between the display and the glossy cover. I cleaned the screen well with electron wipes and theyre still there so i'll be giving alienware a call soon, i hope this is covered by warranty. Theres is quite a gap between the top of the glossy display protector and the actual plastic of lid...2mm or so. Can it be getting in like that?

Looks exactly like that, and the laptop is only 2 months old at best. Darn.

People have reported having their LCD panels replaced for this. Call support.

Hey, taddadar898. I recall that when you had your LCD assembly replaced that it had gouge marks at this gap area. Did you get that replaced again?

Yeah my M15X has a few specs of dust as well. Mine's a refurb. I'm gonna take the panel off one day and clean it. Dell replaces LCD panels because of this? Wow, that's overkill. It's really nothing a microfiber cloth and some compressed air can't fix.

Screens are supposed to be designed in such a way as to NOT allow dust to penetrate the interior of the screen - they're supposed to be sealed. I've never owned one where this happened and the original panel I had on the M11x certainly didn't have a problem with it. These gaps that people are showing appear to be defects.

EDIT: A microfiber cloth can only clean the exterior and using compressed air isn't going to do you any good either. The most it would accomplish is to move the dust around.

I was referring to the interior when I mentioned a microfiber cloth and compressed air, obviously not the exterior. That's why I mentioned taking the panel apart :). If it's a defect then by all means it should be changed. But mine has no defects as far as I can see and the small specs of dust on the inside of the panel probably got there when the panel was replaced before being sold to me as a certified refurb.

My bad. I didn't see your mentioning opening it up. In any case, that's a dicey procedure on these. There's tape used for sealing the assembly around the bezel that can sometime be a little problematic. People who have cracked theirs open have had mixed results with dust ending up in their after reassembly despite their best efforts to prevent it. Some have tired the shower tick, others have used a small vacuum to minimize dust. I know I wouldn't want to have to deal with it. My house us dusty as all get out since we're all wood floors.

Well i just called support and she asked me to take a picture, but when i told her i didnt have a camera on me she just told me that she'd send me a new one. I read the post about waiting till march a little late, but hopefully I wont need to in the future, the hinges have been doing fine so far and as far as I can tell it doesnt seem like theyre on the verge of breaking.

They sent you a new camera? :D I'm joking of course. Even if your hinges don't go bad, if Dell has a solid fix for the issue I would take advantage of it just for preventive purposes.

I've had two panel replacements on my original machine, and my replacement unit had a panel with the gap at the top. I've said in numerous other threads that the PQ on this particular panel is better than the others - but with that friggin gap...

There is now about 15 specks of dust behind my panel with two that show up on screen at certain times. My M11x replacement hasn't left my bedroom desk since it arrived.

Bottom line, if you do have a gap at the top of your panel, you will get dust.

I plan on having mine replaced when the hinge fix is out. If the replacement has the gap as well, I'm going to refuse the part. If it doesn't, but has inferior PQ, I'm going to have the panel swapped out until I get a sealed LCD with comparable PQ as to what I'm rocking now.

My unit would be issue free if it wasn't for this, but as they say, Es lo que es...
