Hi all, first off I've looked around on the forums about ssd drives... I'd like to upgrade this christmas and I would just like a few questions answer

    1. how easy is it for a non tech type guy to replace a ssd drive?

    2. i saw someone make a comment about trying to use a 3.5 ssd drive and of course i guess that wouldnt fit, but what about 1.8 i found a local site that is selling a 160gb for a nice price but would there be a problem of using a much smaller hard drive size?

    3. size, at the moment i have 500gb and its full of videos and stuff.. what size ssd would be best, something that could just have an operating system and then have all my music and video on an external drive?

    thanks for any help...

I should say that my machine is an R2

    1. Very easy -screw driver is the only tool
    2. not completely sure if it fits in the cage provided surrounding your current one then there should really be no problem maybe a small layer of foam could be needed to hold the ssd in place for more safety. 2.5 is the recommended
    3. currently I have over 1tb on externals and I went with 120gb and just carry a usb powered 500gb

for the r2 either sata 2 or 3 will work but the r2 only supports sata 2
basically it is just a faster port for the hard drive to work through

on newegg most sata 2 are cheaper and about the same speed ( some are faster) than a sata 3 drive on a sata 2 port

I only got the vertex 3 which is sata 3 because there is a chance I will place it in a new machine that supports it.
