The R1 was removed from where i live (australia) pretty much as soon as the R2 dropped and the R2 was removed immediatly after the R3 dropped.
so its pretty much completely dependent on your location.

it might be. i wonder if the R1 is still sold in a different part of the U.S.
im in the midwest, if someone from the coast could post on where its being sold or not that would be great.

Which site were you on for that WingNut? I just went to Alienware.com, chose products, chose the M11, chose Select/Customize and both models on show are Core-i based - no Core 2 duo R1.

Nice find! You're absolutely right and it does indeed show up on that page. Strange that it's not on the front page main product list.

Yeah I went the other way. Go to alienware.com and click on the Products link at the top, then click M11 from the drop down image list of laptops. No R1.

Ive noticed Dells web sites have been wierd like that. when i was looking to buy my R1 some days it would be onsale and later than night it would go back up to $799 just to be back on sale a day or 2 later for $599 again.

I dont know if they try to update the site based on raw in house part supply or what. but the R1 was not there a few days ago at the time i looked and now its back.

If your on a budget or like to mod the R1 is still a good choice. but the R3 is the way to go if you can afford it. the performance to dollar ratio is very close between the 2.

    R1 $600 (6k 3Dmark) (8k OCed) median score = $85 per 1k

    R2 $1000 (8k 3Dmark) (10k OCed) median score = $110 per 1k

Aside from that the R3 does have some modern bells and whistles the R1 doesnt, but most of them may be a non issue for most buyers.
