You mean there are some things in the 335m that might be lower clocked than the standard 335m because the su 7300 would bottleneck it anyway?

Agree 100%. I'm pretty surprised that so many were expecting a major boost in gaming fps. I expected no meaningful gains in gaming performance.

My Envy15 will not run the CPU at more than 1.2ghz on battery power, yet the fps remains around the same when plugged in and the CPU gets boosted to 2.5ghz. My i7 desktop gave no real fps increases at stock 2.66ghz or OC'ed to 3.8. I pointed this out on different forums but received no responses.

I briefly had an R1 M11x. Gaming performance is totally fine for my light duty gaming. My only issue was that everyday computing tasks were a bit too sluggish so I returned it. I fully expect the R2 with i7 will resolve that issue, but I expect zero increase in gaming performance.

You will be sorely disappointed to sell your R1 to upgrade to an R2 if you think you'll get a major boost in fps.

Actually, that's half true, Turbo boost activates when there is a temperature headroom(even if the other core is active also, this is why you can get like 1.8 on both core) & there is enough CPU load. Also, when one of the core isn't in-use(the temperature of CPU isn't high as one of the core isn't generating any heat), then the other have a can raise the clock even higher. Hence on i7 quad core like 720QM can sometime show as single/dual/tri-core.

This is exactly why I upgraded and for me, it is worth it, but gaming is not my primary use for it. I couldnt suggest an upgrade for anyone who bought it only as a portable gaming machine, though if you are buying the first time, may as well grab the i7. I happy with it now that I got updated drivers for the gpu working.

just curious, did you notice a huge performance increase after you overclock the processor?

No, I didn't, but that would be because I've never used the r2 without OCing to 166. I OC'd before I installed win 7 even. I don't want it without the OC, so I figure this way I'll get my crashes within my return period if I'm going to have any.

    So far, so good.

it's the law of diminishing returns. the low resolution is already perfectly fine to not make the CPU too much of a bottleneck (when overclocked), so any increase in CPU performance will not help accelerate 3D applications like games by a good margin. games may have 1-4 fps increase overall.
