You realize this is next to useless? I've seen CPU scores from ULV i7 surpassing the CPU I have on m17x...
-
^^^ +1 It's like comparing apples & oranges. Kind of like me asking everyone with a M15X to post their scores against the scores of my desktop PC Which is 7.9 and 3 years old.
-
Where's the -1 feature?
-
already know the number is not gonna looks good as M15X.
what I do like to know is what kind number does M15X gets.
and yea, the number dont really mean anythingbut thats what MS thinks how tough your laptop is...
-
There. Happy now?
You spent $600 - $1000 more on a system that has a faster CPU (almost useless for gaming), a system that can run Windows Aero better, a system that is marginally better in gaming, and a system that gets absolutely smoked in hard drive speeds and application load times. Oh, and the M15x is nowhere nearly as portable as a smaller M11x.
So basically, someone can read these numbers and say "You wasted your money".
Or, you can listen to what everyone else is telling you, and ignore these Windows Experience ratings because they are useless. You need to use a real benchmark tool. -
silly thread

My last 17" HP was a 3.8 due to the graphics and my son still plays games on it including Dragon Age and Call of Duty. The windows score is based on the lowest score. My M11xR1 has a score of 4.6 due to the processor and it plays Crysis, Call of Duty and Mass Effect very well. My graphics on my M17x is 6.7 with crossfire and on my M11x is 6.4. Not much difference there. The M11x is a fantastic little computer and I love it as much as I love my M17x. They serve two different purposes.

Alienware m11x: 3.2 (runs beatifully.. smooth, no lag, very very fast)
Dell XPS M1330: 4.5 (it has an old T7500 C2D @ 2.2GHz and is slow as ****) -
Windows experience calculates a different score across 5 categories. They are:
Processor speed
Memory (RAM) speed
Graphics (2D)
Gaming Graphics (3D)
Primary Hard Disk speed
Your "Base Score" is determined by the lowest score in those 5 categories. However, the Base Score is a little tougher to calculate on an Alienware M11x, because of the switchable graphics.
Your "low" base score of 3.2 is because your score is based off of your Graphics (2D). If you have an Alienware M11x R1, and run the Windows Experience using the Intel GMA integrated GPU on your computer, then your Graphics 2D/3D scores will be low, and somewhere around 3.2. If you have an R1, and turn your nVidia GPU on before you run the Windows Experience Benchmark, then you will get Graphics 2D/3D scores somewhere in the 6.0-6.5 range. Since your Dell XPS M1330 has only one GPU (nVidia 8400M), it doesn't have this problem.
If you have an R2 system, then Optimus would automatically switch between the Intel GPU and the nVidia 335M GPU during the appropriate 2D / 3D tests. Your overall Base Score will still be low on R2's, because your Graphics 2D score will be low (since it is running off of the Intel GMA GPU). But that's ok. For gaming purposes, the two scores that are most important (in order) are Gaming Graphics (3D), and then Processor score.
Note the screenshot I posted earlier of my Windows Experience score. Note that my overall Base Score is very low (3.1) because of the Graphics 2D score. But my machine will still game like a beast, because of the high Gaming Graphics 3D score and the Processor score. -
You can not compare Win Vista and Win7 systems as their WEI are different and winXP doesn't even have WEI.
So how am I going to get the all important WEI of my Pentium IV Prescott 3.2Ghz HT AGP ATI HD 3850 winXP system now then.
I'm being sarcastic, don't even think of replying.

[Yawn, now we can all get some sleep.] -
wow, I didnt know ppl get so offended by this thread. thats not my intent at all.
like i said. I was plan to get M11X because of the portablity. end up with a M15X is that I think I got a good deal with it(at least thats what i think) I got it for 900 + tax. that will be about same if I get a M11X. -
I don't think anyone is offended - I mean at least it doesn't sound like it to me. More like puzzled... why would you pick the world's most useless benchmark to compare the two.

what is your M11X system rating
