I see so many threads regarding problems and issues with the m11x it almost puts a downer on me visiting the site
hinge problems
dell shipping problems
various other problems
lets start a poss. thread, what do you like most about your m11x?

That my hinges haven't broken yet.
-
I'm particularly fond of the screw on the bottom access plate that's under the right palm rest. I've named it Vladimir.
-
I have the M11xR1. It plays every game that I've played on it: Crysis, Mass Effect, Crysis Warhead, Call of Duty 2, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2. The keyboard is excellent and so is the mouse. The screen doesn't bother me at all. It can do all of my applications, Office (I write novels, we're talking about intensive 600 page novels, 400,000 words) without a glitch. I have turned off the graphics switching in bios and I still have great battery life.
-
The only 2 things I really liked about the M11x was the GPU and the SU7300 CPU. -
Everything except the money I paid to get it.
-
In this order:
- cooling
- looks
- GPU
- Keyboard (no flex ftw)
- Touchpad (especially once it absorbs finger grease after 4 months of usage... it feels amazing) -
I have not received mine yet. But I have list of things that made me buy it and to be looking forward to it. And as I believe you have not bougth it yet, perhaps... the hype will
The look and size vs the speed.
I would easily use this computer on a meeting (those few I have). It's a refreshing step from the round corners found on the laptops the last 2-3 years. Yeah it is black and a skull on the back. The meetings will be all about hte M11x instead.
I'm not out to replace my desktop so picked the size/speed on this. Yes there is other laptops, having the Acer 3820 in mind for instance. Or a bigger Asus gaming laptop. But I stopped there even they wont compete with my stationary.
So size matters.
The backlighting on keys. I have that on the desktop. Had a netbook without. Now it is a thing that I have problem to live without.
Look at the skull on the back, how cool is not that.
The silver colored plate on the bottom.
Did I mention size?
Hey, I am 35y old. I should have grown past skulls, flashing lights, black colored things. But I am excited still and the hinge problem is not concern for me at the moment. I'm looking forward to use this computer when it gets here.
I have a bunch of games that I could not play on the netbook, some old like Baldurs Gate, some new like SC2, and Vampire the Masquerade in beetween. Lying on my back in the couch playing those games and watching a boring movie on TV. -
The Best RPG AD&D ever created, imho
Sorry for the off topic... -
/sarcasm -
I enjoy the long battery life. Once the future M17x/M15x have chipsets that support switching to the built in Intel gpus, I'll have no need for the M11x though.
-
The front-side grills with lighting really catches my attention. Wish that the fans produced sounds that mimics the revving of an engine during boot-up. =p
-
having such a powerful GPU in such a small computer
-
The utter power and performance this little devil packs.
-
The fact that it is the perfect computer for me, in that it can do what I want it to do in the best form factor for my uses, i.e. use it as a traveling and college laptop while being a computing/gaming/entertainment rig.
It has a 720p screen, pretty good graphics card, good keyboard, and great appearance, but fits it all into a compact package that isn't heavy and has awesome battery life.
Haven't run into a single gripe, besides potential regrets of not getting R2 for a better processor and driver updates from nvidia. But even then it'll be more of e-peen as I haven't found this slow at all. -
Apparently I've given out too much rep in the last 24 hours. Hahaha.
-
The small form factor
Power & Performance for its size
Overclocked to 166
5:45 battery life (more if I put it to stock clocks)
Ability to change the colors
Intel 6200 & Momentus XT upgrades made this computer really perform
Touchpad is awesome
Gaming on the couch
What I dont like: my wife always taking it to play games on when I put it down -
battery & size
and of course being the R1 -
All the extraneous bits that are absent that make it such a mighty mouse netbook!
less = MORE -
My list:
1) The gaming performance. I *LOVE* having a mobile gaming station.
2) The lighting. I configured my lighting to slowly morph the keyboard lighting from blue to green over about 120 seconds, then morph back in another 120 seconds. Every time I see that, I think "God, that is so friggin cool." -
the i7 sticker is on the bottom not on the palm rest
and yeah i guess the performance -
Me personally I just love that it fits in with exactly what I wanted in a laptop for years.
Small, powerful, solid build and reliable.
I have had no such issues that anyone else has had with mine in the month i have had it(knock on wood) and it does everything I want flawlessly! Well aside from streaming 1080p on wifi, but hey that's what I get for having a b/g wifi node and not a newer N(dd-wrt ftw though!)
I love it. It's my laptop, not my desktop replacement, and people love walking by to see with with controller in hand pounding away at old Snes classics on it! Hahah -
I love it, never had any problems with it, I bring it everywhere and Love that i can play every game i play wherever i go.( WoW & SC2 ). I bought it as a desktop replacment and it has been wonderful...When at home i connect it to my Hanns-G 28.5" Monitor, Alienware Tactx Keyboard/Mouse & logitec Speakers.
When on the go i have the Alienware sleeve & orion messenger bag to pack it up in along with mobile razer orochi mouse/kobuto mouse pad & other accessories like Slim external DVD player/burner
Im such a geek and I love getting all these sweet accessories for it. Plus I always get alot of complements on it when I bring it out to work or friends houses. -
The fact that i took this beautiful little r2 to best buy (to look for a cooling fan) and grinned with satisfaction as the cheesy guys that work there's mouths all dropped on sight of my machine and more so as i explained what this laptop has built in.
oh i forgot to mention. games that play flawlessly for me.
L4D2
MW2
BORDERLANDS
GTA4 on low settings. (still really nice tookin though!)
and I tried fallout 3 even though it always crashed, but it runs perfect.
oh also, that free game alien swarm plays nice too. I don't know a game, that once successfully configured to run off of NVIDIA graphics, isn't playable. (besides ARMA2 i forgot i did try the demo and it sucked, but who cares about ARMA2, the engine fails)
DEMOS that run perfect (another thing i forgot):
Mass Effect 2
Operation dragon rising (YES awesome!)
Just cause 2 (playable)
Napoleon total war (flawless)
trying to get Mafia 2 to work, but it's having trouble downloading idk why.
CHEERS! -

You have a lot more control over how your AlienFX behaves. If you set an event to "Extended dutation", then the morphing happens a lot slower, isntead of the lame 5 second morphing.
Here is what I do to have mine pulse from blue to green, stay on green, then back to blue. It takes a few minutes for this cycle to complete.
-
nice topic, i have bought it(EDD: 8/18/2010) and i was feeling sorry because of the hinge problem.
-
My m11xr2 is amazing. Its one of the best purchases ive ever made. Its solid machine with great potential. Dont worry about the issues you read they are very minor at most.
This machine is amazing.
My favorite part is the SSD option i included in my machine. It increases my laptops performance exponential -
Aside from that, I love everything about this laptop. I have no hinge issues and have an old XPS microfiber cloth that I keep on the keyboard to protect the LCD so everything stays clean. I had thought of selling my M11x for a Timeline X 4820TG or an Asus G72, but in the end, I really enjoy how small of a footprint this laptop has. Sure, I have to squint or get close to the screen sometimes to read it, but I'll chalk that up to being almost 31!!
In the end, everyone will say what they need to say to justify their actions in keeping/getting rid of the machine. Always remember that it's a great idea to be aware of what others have experienced with theirs so you know if you have a problem that needs to be resolved, but in the meantime.....if it's working for you, enjoy it. I know I will be. -
i love the missing screws (5) under the keyboard in the battery slot...
-
The fact that it's essentially two laptops in one is my favorite part, though. Thursday I was using it to play Borderlands, and Friday when I arrived in Maine for vacation and realized I forgot my power cable, but I used it without concern for battery life, yet I got home today with an hour of battery left. -
One of the nice things for me is the "under-achiever everyone wants to get together with"; meaning that people see a "netbook" and they are like "Hmmm. A netbook?" and then you tell them it plays crysis and then you should see the amount of disbelief. Unquantifiable.
The powerful portability was a huge plus; also the price was good. In a sense the m11x is like a jack of all trades but a master of none, but it does everything at an above average level. Its not the best gaming laptop out there but its definitely the most portable. It doesn't have the best battery life but it is good enough for 6 hours of DVD quality movies. And it was by far the most all round pc I could get for ~$1000.
And seriously chicks all love baby animals....well I treat my laptop as part of my life and its small. This = serious eye candy! -
Besides, who doesn't love skulls and flashy, shiny black things?
whats your favorite part about your m11x
