-
I don't really trust the Bios but will give a shot anyway.

K ... tell me how it goes... any differences...and how is the sound issue comming along...
-
You guys, I knew you were already discussing about it.
I did not see much about sound in the fixes history... but I will give it a try. -
thewhitewizard Notebook Evangelist
Already flashed bios to A05....
works like a charm...
need to do the diagnostics though....
Will do a complete diagnostics when i get the time...
and the sound is much better with A05 bios for me...... no tearing man... awesome.....
I LIKESSSSSS......
I can crank up more (>95%) until there is very little distortion... with IDT drivers and no loundness equalisation.... -
Yeah baby, it went all good.

thewhitewizard Notebook Evangelist
did u have the sound tearing issue... -
Cool! Hd5870 and HD 5770! I am looking forward to it!!
-
Is it recommendable to upgrade to BIOS A05 even if you have no issues whatsoever? Or is it best to keep everything it is now? (Everything works like a charm)
-
So I guess the M15x is getting the 5870, nice.
-
If everything works like a charm, there is no reason to upgrade the BIOS.
Btw, does this fix the throtlling issue? I will upgrade after easter... -
Thanks for your answer. I will leave everything as it is.
-
Look at this...it's even worse than before, the GPU frequency when I am playing a game is almost 383/767/301 all the time now, it's making gaming impossible for M15x. Still I have to use rivatuner to fix this, and I just can't believe dell did this.......isn't fixing the throtlling problem their first priority? -
LOL, you are kidding right? You are absolutely sure you are not in stealth mode? This kinda sucks a lot
-
Dell doesn't plan to fix the throttling issue as they claim it doesn't happen in real world situations (wrong). We will probably be using Joker's fix for awhile!
EDIT: Flashing always makes me nervous, but it worked flawlessly. -
It worked for me too. But i'm still facing the audio tearing issue. Albeit ever so slightly improved only.
-
Of course stealth mode is off...
-
Um... my current bios version is A02 but I can directly go straight to A05, no?
-
yes you can go directly to a05.
-
All right - thanks
-
Yay I can sync my ipod nano now ~
-
Nice bios Seems to play ball.. They should have called it A0K
In my experience Dell are way better than many other computer builders..
HP are the worst I've ever dealt with. Mac would have one that title but I never owned my own so it doesn't count. Sony are mediocre at best, Toshiba and IBM are equally average. Asus and Acer are good, but I would rate Dell as Very good. As a general experience and from what I hear from others. I think that's why they did so well because they put service and support pretty highly.
Just my 2 cents
Hey by the way - I see that the Bios now supports a new GFX card.. It has something to do with EC????
After updating the bios it also updated EC and there is some reference to thermal policy etc.. Can anyone explain a bit about that please? I'm kinda curious what EC is
-
To update this bio all we had to do is just burn the iso. file onto a disc n update it through there?
-
thewhitewizard Notebook Evangelist
Yes just burn the iso on a cd, restart and boot from cd... -
It doesn't look like a unknown card;
1GB GDDR3 GTX 260M; Nvidia GeForce;16x PCIe; DX10; MXM 3.0 Type B; NB10E-GT1 -
thewhitewizard Notebook Evangelist
will check on that..... thnx man...
EDIT: Just did a fresh install .. am installing bfbc2 right now that should check for any throttling...
What spec hav you got on your m15x... -
920xm+260m+4g1333. Throttling problem seems only happens in 920and 820, not 720.
-
False.
10c -
If I upgrade to the Hd5870, assuming it is an upgrade, would I be able to do so while keeping my 3 year warranty?
-
unlikely, but better to ask dell themselves.. get the name of the person you speak to and get them to send you an email to confirm it (if they say it doesn't invalidate the warranty)....
-
I just mentioned it on the dual headphone port thread but I guess I should say it here too: I've had the sound problems such as ripping, quality and volume and only 1 working headphone port (though uninstalling sound drivers fixed the quality and volume issues).
After installing the new bios there seem to be little change other than 5-10C less idle temp. The ripping and only 1 port is still a problem so i tryed the latest sound drivers again and I still have the volume issue and although the quality has improved, I'm not sure if it is as good as without drivers. Yes the dual headphone ports work but I'd still raver stick to the uninstalled drivers so it won't work. -
Yep False, I have a 720 with a 260gtx and I experience MAJOR throttling.
-
If you buy the 5870 from Dell then it will be covered.
If, say, you were to buy one the hemi is selling here in the marketplace then no the gpu won't be covered but the rest of the system will be. -
Upgrade to bios A05.... -
That's the point.. that I have upgraded to A05 but the sound issues are still present.
-
maybe get your sound card replaced or could be a loose connection, white wiz is the man to look for for this issue.
-
Hey, the installation instructions say to use a cd, will the instillation work if you use a DVD to burn the image onto.
Cheers -
yes dvd are fine also.
-
thewhitewizard Notebook Evangelist
Do you experience very low volumes with your headphones? and if you try to turn the volume up, the sounds starts tearing... If this is not resolved with the drivers and the bios update..
This might be due to a...
1. Faulty I/O board.
2. Faulty or loose cables between I/O board and motherboard
3. Faulty motherboard
Call the dell tech support and tell them you have tried installing different drivers and the tearing persisted.. they will send a tech to replace all three of these and it will fix the issue... -
Meh, still running A01 here. Any real reason to update? Read that some people are getting lower temps. True across the boards?
-
Yeah. my idle temp drops to 45 at RoomTemp 29
-
i noticed this Fixed the AlienFX bugs as well, not sure if someone already mentioned this or not.
-
alienfx bugs?
btw for me the new bios fixes my sound issues -
my alienfx still has issues the media bar flashes a different color randomly

Any word when Dell will add the 5870 to the M15x ? -
they wouldnt know if you swapped it back before asking them to repair it...
