glad u guys worked out the cooling fan. Yeah after all ive spent on this the missus has hit me with a 100 quid (lol British lingo) to spend on the laptop as ive spent enough already apparently lol

So my budget has me thinking im going to get my 8gb memory for about £25, new wifi ac chip, thinking the intel 3160, which has bluetooth and wifi ac at 433mbps, was going for the intel 7260, maybe the intel 6200, stable drivers from what i read but the 7260 i read nothing but problems with that one.

and i will be left with close to £70, not enough for the intel 920xm but enough for the 840qm which should be close enought for what im doing, the 920 or the 940 sure there awesome and when maxing out the best idea, but gpu wise i havent really maxed this out, just went for a pretty decent overall one within my budget.

I plan on upgrading the gpu over the next year or so, will be watching card on the bay and such looking for a bargin.

Dont waste money on 840qm. It is only about 90% as fast as a stock 920xm. Stock 920xm is really slow these days.

2.2ghz with boost on 4 cores. Most run minimum 920xm 1ghz faster i run mine at 3.7ghz on 4 cores.

HUGE difference. Save the money and jump straight to XM trust me otherwise you will regret it.

Lol 100 quid I have spent 800 quid during the past 2 months haha. I did change gpu, ssd, mobo, ram, heatsinks, gpu fan, backpanel and vent covers though ;) as well as extra small stuff to mod for fun.

Like you the missus doesnt allow me to spend on the laptop so I went all out like I promised her for one last time :D

lol nice mate i wish. Well there was a 920xm the other day for a whole 70 quid, but i hadnt got the mobo yet, so i didnt even know if it would have worked.

Kicking myself now tho at that price. Well the ssd goes in it tomorrow. The 8gb ram is ordred, Will pick up another 8gb on payday when shes no watching.

Em ill pick a new wifi card tonight. Still not to sure on which to get.

Other than that only other thing i can pick up is a cpu and gpu, happy with the gpu currently, and if i get a 920 for a good price then thats the way to go i guess.

Hell of an overlock u have there, whats the temps like on that when gaming ?

Not great :) yeah basically the difference between 720qm and 840qm isnt big. While 920xm is vastly more powerful.

Only a few hundred mhz difference. While the xm comfortable adds another 1 - 1.5ghz of speed!

In demanding games I do actually notice a different between 3ghz overclock and 3.4ghz. 3ghz used to be my gaming clocks but more recent titles suffer less stuttering with that extra 400mhz. You will need additional cooling for that though. Approximately 15 degree load temps difference between those two clock speeds!

There is a picture linked in my signature. I have a 140mm fan blowing at the bottom of my laptop.

So i ot the core i7 920xm today and installed it. All running peachy. Updated my gpu drivers tho and lost brightness control. Roll back didnt work so got the latest fire pro dell drivers from there site rather than amds and wola back to working thankfully.

Will overclock at some point through the week and get some benchmarks up
