hello guys!!
i had previously ran Crysis 2 on my M15x but i had a worry about my GPU throttling issue..the FPS [25 and drops to 10] dropping issue!!
even my bios is vA09.... and here are my temps while on Crysis 2
[FULLHD,Advanced mode..i know that 260m can't take it but still wanna play]
CPU i7820QM all cores Avg @ 60-67c
GPU @ 70-82c...
is there any wrong with the above temp Fig's??
and can i know what's the Fps that we get on 5870m?
thankyou!

Howdy Ashtrix,
I have an M15x with a GeForce 260m, and get approx 50fps at 1280x720 in Crysis 2. I have the settings set to "Very High." Sometimes Stealth Mode seems to stick, so if you are seeing poor framerates, try hitting your Stealth Mode button to turn it on, and then turn it off. That should unstick it. A sure sign that Stealth mode is stuck, is that your GPU fan does not spin up while you are playing a game. Good luck!

...I'd a 260m and tried playing Crysis2 on it and to tell you the truth,I was rather disappointed. I had to drop the resolution to 1600*900 and put the game into gamer settings for it to run>30 fps.
The problem you are having is not throttling. The FPS is dropping from 25 to 10 like you say because I noticed that while some shoot-outs, the fps seems to drop in the game. I think that's normal. In the later stages when more aliens start coming, the fps tend to drop even more.
I currently play on a OCd 460M and I've never seen the fps drop below 35 while playing in advanced at 1080p.
You could download advanced graphics settings app for Crysis2 and optimise some advanced settings through it or you can directly modify the .cfg file, depends on your preference. I think Crytek should have included the advanced settings options like they had done in Crysis but I guess they were in too much of a hurry to release the game an earn some BIG bucks.
Let me know if you have any problems with modifying advanced settings through the mod.
Cheers.
I cure -
yep. but i think the fps drop is not when i encounter more aliens or while rendering @ vast environment...its a total randomness(maybe my laptop still suffers with the CPU~GPU throttling issue)....i think my M15x won't get cured until i get a 5870 or 6970
...

vast difference!!!
FULLHD vs 1280x720....
and i'm quite sure that my sys's stealth mode's not on!
its most prob the temp prob or GPU throttling! -
I do not find your temps a problem. If you want a reference, my temps under full load are:
5870m gpu 1.
Die 78c
memIO 82-83c
5870m gpu 2.
Die 75-76c
memIO 78-79c
These are my m17x gpu temps under full load.
I think the problem is the gpu software. Try to reinstall and update the nVIDIA software. -
i had tried many times reinstalling drivers..but still no sucess far!
i must upgrade to 6970 asap!!

When I play crysis 2 single player overclocked, I 1080p, very high graphics, I get about 40-70 fps most of the time. FPS might sometimes drop into the 30s, typically remaining in the 50s. This is with temperatures being in the 60s or 70s celcius on both GPU die and ram.

lmao I meant celcius. Farenheight would be really cold. Like if I were uisng a dry ice cooler.
-
Trust me people use that. I can actually achieve 20C in a cold environment with fans on full and everything on idle.
A guy in the M17x forums used liquid nitrogen for his cards when he did a record breaking benchmark. Idle temps around -10C maximum load around 30C. -
here my GTX stucks at 25FPS!! -
can you please post the link here!!!
Liquid Nitrogen in M17x...!!
-
Both extremes are not good, the card is made to protect itself against extreme heat by turning off etc. Against cold the card does not have any "safe guards".
-10c is really insane. Thats below freezing point. -
I just run Crysis 2 for a couple of minutes, I average at about 30 fps according to fraps, settings are hardcore, 1080p, stock. -
on 6970 1080p? -
Yes... but I only played a couple of minutes and didn't touch the settings. Before I really gonna play this I have to reduce the blur effect or whatever this is called, don't really like it.

I have watched multiple videos of people using liquid nitrogen to cool their desktop CPUs to negative 60 degrees celcius and one of them was with a intel i7 980X which they OCd to over 6 GHz. the others were old CPUs i didn't recognize the names of.
@Ashtrix svl7 is running on a level higher than I am, so that is why he got lower FPS, also I OCd my card. If you are considering a new card from ATI, and price is not a factor, you would want a 6970 since people have confirmed it works in the M15x. Just make sure it is a mobility 6970, not desktop. The 5870 is about $250 cheaper if i am not mistaken, and I dont really know how much worse performance the 5870 is. I think between 20 and 50 percent more performance in most games with the 6970. I am sure somebody else can tell you more advise. -
I would pop off the back cover and do a dust check. I have been playing Crisis 2 on very high settings with around 40 FPS at 1600x900. Online drops FPS down to mid 30s but is completely playable.
-
!!
-
i couldn't get you!!?
what do you want to say is ,5870 has worst performance over 6970 in price to performance ratio or...?? -
He means a 6970 performs 20-30% better than a 5870 and a 5870 is 250$ cheaper. Just my .02$
-
oops...sry i missed it!!
ty! -

exactly what sgt said, but in a way longer sentence
-
I run in 1280x720 on M15 720QM with 260M (OC) and runs very well - no issues except the laptop does run hot
-
[get a 6970]!!
and on 1600x900p advanced my 260m runs @ 34-47 fps!
no OC temps @ 83c GPU | 67-69c CPU. -
Hehe yeah for me 720p is enough and it runs great but yeah of course a better GFX card would be better - I'm happy enough with the 260m for now though
Crysis 2 on M15X wid 260m..!
