Recently, my dear M15x just get a problem with it's CPU side, when idle without using a custom fan profile in HWinfo, the CPU can get up to 76 degree celcius and everything in the CPU side getting hot too: the metal case, the keyboard. But when I set a custom CPU fan profile in HWinfo, the temperature cut down drasmatically. I'm using ThermalGrizzly Conductonaut on CPU and IC Diamond 7 carat on GPU. This only occur on idle, when I fulload the CPU, it never get past 79 degree, I can confirm that the heatsink still works as its fins and cooper tube still getting hot as the temperature's raising like the GPU heatsink does.

The maximum temperature is when I leave my M15x idle for 3 hours and the current temperature is after I enable the HWinfo

Are you sure you don't have any background processes using CPU cycles and generating heat?
If you have Chrome open while idling try turning off hardware acceleration in settings. -
I don't use any chromium based browsers and my CPU usage never get past 20%

20% usage while idling? While idling in chrome I use about 2-5% CPU. You have a very strange fan profile set in HWinfo.
Try de-selecting the sensor so it all goes back to inactive and observe the default fan behaviour while HWinfo is still open. -
I'm using Kaspersky so it will scan my laptop when it's idling so 20% usage is reasonable.
ok, I'll restore the fan profile back to default and see what will happen in the next 2 hours

Sounds like Kaspersky might be the culprit. Disable it and see if it drops temperatures. Even if its only using one core it could increase idle temps of the whole CPU. -
this is what happened after I restore the fan profile back to system default. the temperature still very high, even when it's idling
The chassis only get hot on the left side where the CPU stay but it's cool on the GPU side, even the front chassis -
You are sure the fan is spinning right? Did you apply that liquid metal compound correctly. It should be spread on the cpu and the heatsink as well.
-
yes, I spreaded it on both the CPU and the heatsink. the fulload temp is okay but the idle temp is not. With my custom fan profile, it never get past 70 on non-CPU related games and 78 on games like Crysis 3

Can you read the Cpu package power in Hwinfo while your machine run idle speed ? Shut down every unnecessary software when you monitor Hwinfo.
-
I can't see any CPU's voltage info in HWiNFO
-
I don't talk about voltage info. Cpu package power. Aka how much power the processor use in real time.
-
well, it just keeps on jumping from 15W to 55W and back

Are you familiar with throttlestop? You can't use it to overclock with your processor but it might stop any strange behaviour.
See if your processor goes into lower C-states when idling. -
you meant this?
By the way, I've done some tweaks to my power plan and seems like it works in lowering the idle temp

Glad to hear. That might be the best you can expect given your ambient temperature is so high.
I like your sticky note

just store some emoji that I might want to use sometimes in the future
