    Processor: Intel Core i7-940 Processor (8MB L3 Cache, 1MB L2 Cache, 2.93GHz)

Is that the extreme edition? its in the refurb store..they all say 920 or 940 at the top of the price range...but doesnt say if its the EE. (looking at refurb 15x)

    That's a desktop CPU... 2.93GHz... This can't be in a M15x.

The 940 version in the M15x is the 940XM. Base of 2.13 but it is overclockable with unlocked multipliers.

Well I took the weekend off from looking at AW laptops. Back now trying to see if I can make a decision. Not easy with all these prices/models!

Is that the XM? doesnt say in outlet...but the outlet never seems to have everything listed.

    I don't think it is..but did the M15x ever have a basic 920 or 940?

A quick look at the Intel site suggests that there were no non-Extreme edition 920 or 940 processors. As far as I can tell, the only 920 and 940 processors seem to have been the 920mx and 940mx.

    Happy shopping.

maybe Ill chat with the dell outlet rep and see if they can clarify.

with the 20% off i could get a HECK of a M17X R2...fully loaded, XM proc, dual ATI, dual 256gb SSD in raid 0 etc etc loaded up for 2400 bucks...the m15x is also a great deal esp if thats XM processors. I may try one, if the refurb looks like something isn't right, ill box it up and send it back...is there a restocking on those?

That's a desktop CPU, like I already mentioned before, if it's listed in a M15x someone messed up. The mobile version has a bit different specs, see here.
The 940xm is officially available in the M15x. It's really a powerful CPU.

Theres no such thing as a non-XM 920/940.......... At least not in the mobile range. Don't know about desktops.

I looked on the Intel site - admittedly not an exhaustive search_ but could not find any 920 or 940 cpu's among the desktop processors. As far as I can tell, the 920xm and 940xm are the only processors with those numeric designations and both are Extreme Edition, Mobile processors.

Hahaha, sorry... look, I show you how this works:

Let me google that for you

    First results with google:

When looking for "intel i7 920"

    and here's the one for the 940: Intel® Core? i7-940 Processor (8M Cache, 2.93 GHz, 4.80 GT/s Intel® QPI)with SPEC Code(s)SLBCK

I stand corrected. There clearly are 920 and 040 desktop processors - and they are in the i7 series - but not Extreme Edition. Power consumption is for desktops (max TDP 130w as opposed to 55 w). Not appropriate for laptop use.
