What everyone else is saying. Basically remove those screws (inner or outer two I did both), flip the laptop back over and you should very carefully pry the back edge at each corner up to start (I used my fingers), once it starts to pop out carefully lifting the rest will allow them to pop out as well. Each back vent has two screws on the top and one on the bottom. Unscrew and pull out towards the back to remove.![]()

Middle, or Sensor 1, is hot GDDR5 VRAM. It is normal for this type of memory to get quite warm.
Sensor 0 (first one) is the GPU.
ATM I cannot remember what Sensor 2 (last one) is. lol -
0 and 2 are fine but the middle one is way too hot, maybe i should move the pads over abit more.
-
I just read that the new macbook i7 systems are reaching 100C!
Now that is insane and makes me feel pretty good about my M15x's cooling. I know that the systems are very different, but I just can't stand hot laptops and am glad that the cooling in the AW is top-notch. -
Who needs stoves when you can make mac n cheese with a notebook. How did Apple let something like this get released? Those temps are definitely hot enough to melt the plastic that holds the laptop together
-
That's nothing new, the older MBPs I've used were already in the upper nineties.

maybe everyone is too excited about temps and frames and vantage scores...or maybe i missed it and its lurking somehwere in the pages of this thread...but what im curious about is...
DO the M15x i7 720, 820,920 Throttle with the 5870m?????????
Everyone has always said it was a powermizer issue with the bios+the gtx260m..... so can someone confirm this by testing and hopefully not experiencing any throttling with the 5870m? I know ATI has less annoying overheating techonology that Nvidia ( powermizer is too sensitive) so throttling should be gone!!
So can someone test for gpu+cpu throttling?? THANKS
Oh and by the way.. my 5870 is on the WAY
can't wait to join the Ever-growing community
.. so while i wait... im flashing my 260m to 1v and pushing it to its limits
hehehe
-
Jstarnino no throttle issues here (though I can't confirm real time clock data as gpu-z isn't update for the mobile 5870 yet). I've not seen any slow down or stuttering in any games as a result of any kind of throttling
.
Just wanted to add a screencap from playing bad company 2 a hour and thirty minutes (single player, maxed out completely). Clocks are cranked down back in windows to bring temps down.
Looking back at both programs makes sense TSS0 circuit board, TSS1 gddr5, and TSS2 gpu core (along with hw monitor picking up that same gpu sensor) -

Seems most consistent. Nice temps btw.

Found a little geek trick to automate the downclocking process at bootup. Create a shortcut to Clock Tool, then right click, select Properties and add the following to the command line contained in the Target box: “-eng=250” “-mem=300” (with quotation marks). Then drag the shortcut (as modified) into the Startup Folder. At boot, Clock Tool starts up, resets the clocks and exits. Happens so fast you can barely see it. Opening Clock Tool and clicking Restore Default Clocks takes you right back to 700/1000 or whatever other values you have set in the vbios. -
Rengsey R. H. Jr. I Never Slept
I'm having a problem, the device manager does not recognize the card, it display VGA and the driver install has error at the end of installation. Can someone help ...please....
-
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
How's it look in the bios? Do you know for a fact you have the A05 bios? What driver did you try? -
it could be the driver? what driver are you using?
-
Rengsey R. H. Jr. I Never Slept
I flashed A05 first , then I tried 10.3 official. but at the end of the driver install, I get error message.
Uploaded with ImageShack.us -
Without A05 the laptop wouldnt probably even boot with a display.
You have to install that card manually. Did you do Device Manager ->Right click on VGA card -> update driver -> select the driver location?
The driver location is most likely C:\ATI\Support\10-3_monility...\Packages\Drivers\Display\W76A_INF -
Its a warning, not an error message and I got that too. You can install the driver anyways as mentioned in my previous post
-
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
Try these drivers and see what happens....

Rengsey R. H. Jr. I Never Slept
Thanks guys.. I got it working. -

71c idle .. I haven't done anything yet..I'll try some benchmarking tonight. Still waiting on my Beast m15x to arrive on wednesday.
I just recently got the item, how about hooking me up for a 14 day low price guarantee?
Install ATi 10.3 preview per babyhemi, and after install, manually locate the extract folder and update driver per wattos. -
lol me too. But I guess thats how life is. Im happy I got rid of that throttling nvidia card
-
That's about 20c too high.
-
is there any mod i can do for the heatsink to make it better. i work right next to a sheet metal place and they have a ton of copper sheeting, thinking of using it.
-
Lap the heatsink so there is less of a need for thermal paste.
-
Rengsey R. H. Jr. I Never Slept
I'll double check whenI get home. It was 1 or almost 2 a.m. when I checked after the installation... lol -
rengsey did you get ccc to work???? and thanks mandrake
-
Rengsey R. H. Jr. I Never Slept
I didn't get a chance to check it. I will do so when I get home from the J.O.B.

Since I just bought mine any chance of getting that discount applied to my purchase?
Thanks! -
Any idea on what full price is incase for those that miss out?
-
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
The regular price is $399.00 + Shipping Charges for the card only
The regular price is $439.00 + Shipping Charges for the kit that includes the heatsink for the Clevo W870CU.
Again, after this stock is gone the price will go up to at least the prices you see above... -
man be happy with the price you bought...you paid for it already. This isn't Big Box Retailer. No offense to anyone in particular - just a general observation.
Take it up with the seller personally...not on public forum post.
edit..
(the point of this thread will be completely missed and taken as a personal attack rather than a suggestion). -
Ok, chief.
Wasn't exactly bombing him with messages about refunding me any money. Just politely asked if he could.
So if my posts bother you, just put me on your ignore list
-
Rengsey R. H. Jr. I Never Slept
Babyhemi is part of the NBR family. It doesn't hurt to ask big brother for a price guarantee. lol....
Back on topic : I'm gonna see if I can squeeze some Vantage/3DmarK06 juice from this bad boy. -
nvm, wrong forum

A heads up to anyone purchasing a 5870m in the UK , from the US. Mine got hit with a 60 pound VAT and handling charge by customs and parcel force, paid it off and should be getting delivered tomorrow. Looking forward to getting it into my m15x and seeing what it can do
.
-
Fortunately, customs did not ask me to pay extra money...seems I was very lucky
-
I just installed my Ati HD5870 from hemi, I'm having trouble with gpu-z, on the sensor tab it's not reading anything at all.
-
Gpuz doesn't work for me neither. Try hwmonitor
-
Thanks, it works, the AMD clock tool does not work too
-
Actually it does work. You need to get the correct version. This works for me
AMD GPU Clock Tool v0.9.26.0 For HD 5870 download from Guru3D.com -
wattos, which ATi driver are you using for that card?
-
10.3 downloaded from the ati website
-
@Wattos
Hows your gaming temps on these new cards? And idle too...
Works well so far? -
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
I haven't heard of anyone that I sent the card to being charged VAT. At least that's the info I received. -
I'm using the 10.6 beta.
