Supposedly the 4700qm is the haswell version of the 3630qm. Not particularly quick when compared with the 29xx or 39xx chips.

as the stated over the thread in the m17x forum mentioned by fatboyslimerr
it looks like the max wattage consumption is hardcoded in the bios of the m15x.
isn't this something we can test by running 2 tests
1 measuring the max wattage using a 150w adapter
1 measuring the max wattage using a 240w adapter
if those wattages are the same(lets say around the 180w max), we can easily diagnose that the max allowed wattage consumption is fixed in the bios of the m15x.
then we will know we have to either mod the bios or the adapter. -

It might not be the BIOS but hard coded to the chipset/motherboard using some feedback trace signal to the ID chip in the 150W adapter.
Apparently the 240W and 330W adapters use totally different types of ID chips, some passive or active but its unclear if it would be possible to mod a 240W adapter using a 150W ID-chip and it definitely wouldn't supply more than the approximate limit of 180W. Some next level modification may be necessary and may end up being completed pointless due to inhibitory cost!
My 150W adapter draws maximum 176W from the wall when running benchmarks. -

What about the 210W adaptor. I am getting one soon. Picking it up in the UK
It is designed for use with the precision workstations. Let's see....

i've read much about the id chip in the adapter.
possibility is to remove the psid chip from the 150w adapter and place it entirely into the laptop itself.
so no matter what adapter you use the system would always think it has the right adapter.
ive just ordered a 240w power supply and i will pop open my old 150w when i have the chance -

Sleeping dogs experiences pretty severe throttling when trying to run CPU with any overclock. Pretty nasty!
Fortunately at stock CPU clocks the game runs at 60 fps with everything except FXAA on highest. -
im experiencing thermal shutdowns when playing Bioshock Infinite.(in about 10 to 15 minutes)
currently running it at 1600x900 @ ultra preset (v-sync on)
ati driver 13.6 beta -

1. Re-paste the card with better thermal paste such as ICD7 or ICD24
2. Use 1.0mm Phobya thermal pads on the VRAM ensuring proper contact
3. Ensure the screws on the heatsink are tight enough to apply proper pressure to the chip
4. Use an undervolted vBIOS such as 0.975v - take a look over on tech inferno forum where you can join and download a vbios patcher or their pack of vBIOS' -

I have got the 210`w power supply now and it is far better build quality than the slim 240W. Should work well. -
just got my 240w adapter today(bit bigger than i imagined)
i also opened my old 150w adapter.
i think this is going to be a bigger challenge than i imagined.
it seems as that the chip really communicates with the motherboard to allow it to charge and therefor letting the adapter give current.
so even if i would put the chip directly into the motherboard it would not communicate with the new adapter.
best solution is to either place the 150 psu chip in the 240 adapter.
or modding the ec firmware to allow a bigger psu.
ill try and do some research about editing the ec firmware -
everything you stated i did except the repasting with icd7.
I used some coolermaster paste(from my local computer shop)
does it make that big of a difference? -

Too lazy to start a new thread, anyone with 7970M on Catalyst 13.8 Beta yet? Any differences?
-
13.8 Beta, seems stable on various clock settings.
In the release notes it states that there is an performance boost of 7% in Metro.
Don't own metro so i will never know
