Just download them, just jpegs so you can preview them, if you like it then backup your old icons, then replace it with the new ones.

    guys,

im about to order the M15x but have 1 final problem

what friggin colour to buy, they all look good.

does anyone think the red is best.

from videos that ive seen the black looks a bit finger magnet,
silver could look a bit oldish
the red could look a bit girlish

    can someone comment please :)

If you have the cash I'd choose the red. It looks better and resale value will be better.

Do you mean don't update Windows Media Player codecs? If so what's the reasoning/logic for this?

What I am talking about are codec packs. Installers which contain a bunch of codecs all packed together. These usually make lots of modifications to the registry and leave the registry in a mess. Just use VLC where you dont need to install any codecs at all.

    Can you link me?

I am having issues with the workaround fix for the driver. When I change it to false and attempt to save and replace, it says access is denied.

Edit: Nevermind, it let me just move the current install file out and I was able to "Save as" the file in that folder.

Nevermind on all of that. The drivers and CCC were installed, but it's not recognizing my 5850, and the max resolution is 1400 x 900 (native 1900 x 1080.

I did. I said screw it and did a fresh install on Win 7, now trying that link. Here's to hoping. :(

Edit: Ok that download froze at 99% and would not finish. I went to the ATI site and downloaded 10.6 from there. However, when I open the InstallManage file, the Workaroundinstall value is already set to false. Anyone with an explanation?

I'm good to go! Apparently you have to change it from FALSE to TRUE, not the other way around as the OP suggested. Not saying he/she was wrong, but that worked for me.

I know but like you i want my touchpad disabled and thats the easiest alternative...

I so rarely used the touchpad it really didnt matter what driver i had installed for it as i would only use it in a pinch ...

No need to be sorry, bud! I know you knew the correct way, just sometimes our brains don't want to type it that way. :D Your guide helped me lots, and I'm loving my new m15x.

Offtopic: Anyone know why it says "You must spread rep around some more before you can rep XXXXXX." when I try and rep someone? I've been trying to rep many different folks, but that pops up every time.

i think you have to rep a certain # of people after you give some +rep before you can add for them agian. i pretty much did what it said and spread it around and then it allowed me to give wattos more.

That's what I was saying. I WAS trying spread it out. It won't let me give rep to people that I have never given rep to in the first place.

All this, only for ATI cards right!?

    Or is this part:

"ALSO NOTE: It is highly recommended that you uninstall your current driver and run a tool like CCleaner + reboot before proceeding with the driver install"

    Also recommended for Nvidia?

and for all drivers for that matter, to avoid conflicts with older drivers when installing newer ones. Get into the habbit or running CC cleaner+rebooting with every change you make to your computer. It'll ensure things run nice and smoothly.

Do you think it would be enough to get me through University for 3 years? I'll be using software like Adobe After Effects and Maya.

I'll see if I can fit it into my budget, but I'm poor at the moment lol, Plus I was told that 1080 would look weird on such a small screen?

everything looks good to me, even if you do need more power later on you can upgrade the cpu for pretty cheap. the screen is up to you, i love my 1080 but you will hear different from everyone.

amen. And it by no means looks weird. Its actually the nicest/Sharpest screen i've ever seen. How sharp you ask? It has the same amount of pixels as my big screen TV. except its 15.6", and my tv is 46". :)

But besides looking perty, and being able to fit more on the screen because of the higher res, the 900p is just as gorgeous. :)

Either way, it'll be the best laptop you've ever owned. :D
