It could be TRIM, going by this thread you may need to update the firmware however it sounds risky cos it comes with a brick warning...

ok so does anyone elses fans over work...mine just seemed to have gotten really loud for a second then i had to close my comp...i was running avast security and garrys mod and it just go t loud

-

Anyways what card do you have? If ATI, upgrade to the 10.8 drivers from AMD's site, I've done this and it fixed my fan "full blast" startup issue, might very well be your fix. -
it just happens in garrys mod....it doesnt do it in doom 3 or splinter cell...but seems like ima have to go with artic silver...only paste i have
-
cubankid, just giving you a heads up about old thermal paste. i had some AS5 which i kept for a while (had the tube for around 4 - 5 years) and it wasn't working for my last application (5870 with temps over 100*C in seconds). replacing this paste with a new tube did the trick. so don't be suprised if your paste is somewhat "expired".

So, officialy lost all my work file
But I'm now enjoying a Fresh system. Boy Fresh installs are soo long and boring
Plus with school these days I dont feel like losing hours of my precious time installing softwares and configuring windows!
Shucks though, my SSD appears to be much slower than it was before, mainly in the random 32k files..
Anyways, what is up with y'all guys? -
Not much soccer, just did a clean install today too. Boring as hell but hey anything for the best results, trying to make it as clean as possible then image this one.

I'd trust CrystalDiskMark over WEI. I don't really know much about the Samsung tho. I do know that in the 4KB tests the Intel walks all over the OCZ and I suspect the OCZ should beat the Samsung but I'm not sure by how much...

NVIDIA DRIVERS 6.06 -
hi people..
i've just for the first time tried to hook up the laptop to a hd tv via the display port adaptor into hdmi cable. the picture is fine and in fact system sounds and things like windows media and any web browsing sounds work through the tv but no sound is output when playing blu-ray discs. I'm guessing it's a Powerdvd issue. I've just got the powerdvd software installed that came with the M15x. How do I get it to work? Others must of had similar issues I'm guessing.... -
yo have to select the audio trough display port in the audio options
-
Since your windows sounds work you must have it set up right. I've heard good things about Arcsoft as a Blue-Ray player but haven't gotten round to trying it myself.

Yay! My 5850 finally came in today! Got it right next to me at work, going to install it in the next few min
-
WOOT! You're gonna love it Syth! Hope you have some OCZ freeze to keep things cool!
I recently just salvaged my Girlfriend's HP that used to heat up to 78*C while elevated on a table, watching youtube videos for 20mins. (highest i've seen was 84*C!!!! Takes FURMARK to get me to those Temps LOLL). Last night, i told her enough is enough, as she was experiencing frequently freezing and lockups or slow downs and her warranty just ended in july. So i clean Installed win 7. Got rid of bloateware, updated the bios+ drivers, and took that baby apart to re-paste it with OCZ Freeze.
All i can say is that i FRIGGIN love my M15x, as it took me about 10mins to get to the cpu and re-paste... Well not with HP! I decided i was too cool for manuals and decided to wing it.... had to strip her down (not my gf the laptop! You dirty dogs you! lolllz) to the very motherboard to reach the cpu heatsink and fan! I was there for 2 hours total, for a job i thought would take me 10mins! Anyways re-pasted and clean the fans, and viola! Friggin thing runs sweet now. Watched about a 45min 1080p stream off the net (that would've melted a hole through her glass desk before) and maxed out at 58*C. GReatest improvement i've ever seen by OCZ Freeze... but it might have been the fan cleaning as well. Anyways just to say... Great Product! She was amazed at my inner geek skills LOL.
Ok now that was a nice uselss story for most, so on with the good stuff right? Lolll.. Well here ya have it. I need help.
Ok so i don't know who is currentwith my problem, but it all started a couple days back. I was missing a rubber foot on my palmrest so Dell decided to send me a whole new palmrest with the tech that was already coming to replace my lcd with dead pixels ( and tiny dot like scratches). After the imcompetant tech gave me a heartattack trying to service my machine, he also forgot to replace the little ribbon-wire that connects the trackpad to the board. The next day he came by to drop it off in my mailbox, and when i got home from work, i installed it.
To my surprise, the colors on the trackpad (actually just the darkest blue which is the color my M15x is always on), wouldn't match up to the rest of my laptop. I tried vigorously changing colors on CC cuz i know they sometimes get stuck and that usually helps to "unstick" them when they don't change color properly. Nothing. My trackpad remained an "aqua" blue while eveyrthing else would be dark blue. The Tint was just off being too light. So i uninstalled and re-installed CC, and nothing, same garbage.
Called up Dell, they said they would send me a new palmrest. Ok fine. there was hope.
I just got my palmrest today and Same crapola. I'm thinking its not a palmrest issue anymore, but somthing else? Maybe motherboard? I Don't friggin know thats why im on here typing this bible up (one too many coffees today me thinks)
So, Great and Allmighty Alienware M15x Community, Any suggestions? Ideas? Speculation as to WHY THE ______ This is happening to me? Thanks -
Unfortunately I don't have any paste with me at work. Although i do work in the IT industry so there has to be some paste around here somewhere. Right now i am just using the stock thermal paste. Hopefully that should be enough for the night and i can go get some real paste at canadacomputers tomorrow morning.
-
it came with a tube of paste? don't tel me theres only a thermal pad on it :|
-
Didn't come with any paste sadly
Really mad about that. Managed to find some at work, but it's really crappy paste. So, I won't do any benching or anything really with it since I don't want to burn it out
I'll just leave it in the corner for now sadly and pick up some paste tomorrow.
Just can't decide between:
Arctic Cooling Arctic MX-3 Thermal Compound | Canada Computers
or
Arctic Silver 5 (12g) High-Density Polysynthetic Silver Thermal Compound | Canada Computers -
both paste are good, but mx-3 is non conductive and safer to use. but lately i'm been using ocz freeze its non conductive like mx-3 but more dense like as5, so the best of both worlds at only 1/3 of the price.
-
-
And oh ya i forgot mx-3 is non conductive. Guess i'll pick up some of that tomorrow. Looks like the alien stays in the corner tonight and the t61 steps up to the plate!
-
yea new cable also. Tried evrything again. Nothing. But its only the DARK Navy Blue that isn't in sync.... everything else is fine... ? Well actually If i leave the color wheel at dark blue for the touchpad, it perfectly matches the keyboard color as if the keyboard was set to the next blue (aqua-blue) going clockwise on the color wheel. and if i move the touchpad to that same aqua-blue color its then a shade lighter than that aqua-blue, having to move the keyboard light color yet another notch to the next blue after that (even lighter aqua) to have th etouchpad and the keyboard the same color. The rest of the colors are fine, it just seems the blues are all out of sync. Can this really be a mobo problem?
Has anyone received a new M15x and have the touchpad set to dark blue with the rest of the laptop? Does it match perfectly? Hey inap your system is new... does it match up perfectly? -
gave me a minute i will try it out.
-
Mine matched perfectly, it's 2 weeks old.
-
EDIT: Thanks for that N20D5OH... guess ill call dell tomorrow AGAIN. Geeze they're going to call me by first name soon. -
dark blue on mine is good, but every other color seems to be off by just a little or uneven. hahaha first time i've check haven't used the touchpad in ages.
-
i never use it either but i leave the light on... except while gaming, then i shut it off.
-
hey after how many times of calling did Dell send you a new system?
Crap double post. -
well i had the mobo replaced and 3 touch control covers, so 4 calls. actually the tech called for me and ask for a replacement, which is sweet. still there is a stuff spot in my heart for my old one, hehehheh
-
i know what you mean... i miss my old palmrest/trackpad
... all for a stupid rubber foot that fell off.
And i REALLY dont feel like dissemblign this beast to rip out the motherboard and replace it. I say "i" because no tech will be touching it again. -
man i have a stock pile of M15x parts now, hahahha got like 4 extra touch control cover, 1 extra palm rest, 1 lid, 1 bottom, 1 extra hdmi-dp converter, hahhah too many to list. just need the internals and i can make another m15x, hehhehe
-
Bro does your extra palmrest match up with the rest? If it does, ill buy it off you and pay shipping
I can even send you this one which is brandnew and works great if you dont like Navy blue -
I'll try out the palmrest tomorrow, if its good then we could just swap.
-
But thanks for the offer
-
Np but its there if you need it.
-
I wonder when MX-4 will finally be released as its supposed to be in the coming weeks
-
AHHHH CompTIA is so boring i just got trough hardware....i knew most of it but geez its alot to go through before the 22nd....ima be the youngest kid taking that exam
-

-
