Guys what was the highest overclock ever for the 260m? Who had it? Links to benchmarks welcomed as well.
Thanks!
-

The A05 seems to make OC more delicate.. Though you can easily go at 675/1100/1590 (The clocks I always use).
Though when I try to go over 700/1150/1600, it doesnt work..
sad thing..

Well I'm gonna install my SSD, I should be back tomorrow!
 Wish me luck!
      -

Good luck soccer should be a simple install.
I think white wizard had the highest oc but I can't remember what it was. But soysauce has the highest bench for 260 I think it was page 13 of the benchmark thread. -

i've benched using 700/1100/1700 and completed a whole round... but i didn't stess test it, and when furmark started to send temps steadily climbing towards 85, i stopped it, and decided ill just stick with 660/1100/1660 ...those are my OC'd gaming clocks that are rock solid. i've gone through hours of gaming with them.

I'm out of cleaning alcohol for my gpu do you guys think I can use sone grey goose to clean it. Lol
 -

Thanks guys. +rep to all
Nah just alcohol and then use a cotton ball to remove the dried residue. -
No I wouldn't. You should only use 90% isopropyl alcohol, at the very least 70 but you have to let it dry. Grey goose has ethanol anyway plus sugars and carbs.
 -

pretty sure he was joking LOL
 -

I dunno after seeing his 4/20 post I can't be sure anymore lol
 -

Ahah! Who would use one of the finest vodka to clean his beloved computer!
...well now that I think about it, it does make sens 8D -

Hi guys could you explain to me what's the best way to go about OCing my M15x? I've been pretty content with stock clocks up til this point but I figure why not learn how to squeeze out every last drop of performance from this beauty. I'm not even sure what tools or programs should be used so I figured you guys would be the best ones to ask. Thanks in advance
      -

Download nvidia performance tool.. Easiest way.
Just got done installing windows and all. I'll have the go back and download tons of programs later today, but it works great and damn, it is fast
      -

 doesnt work dude

dell called me and gave me some solution but still no changes
they will come on monday and replace my motherboard omg!
will that effecting my warranty?

what should i dooooo arghhh -

Nah wont affect your warranty.
Weird though =0 -

this is crap man
everything works fine
only alienfx doesnt work they wanted to replace my motherboard?!
is that necessary? =\ -

Ahah, nop.. But since they wont charge you anything I guess its worth it!
 -

Isn't the AlienFX board soldered to the mobo?
It makes sense to me to replace it as it might be an issue with the AlienFX controller hardware. -

cool
hope they'll do anything to fix my M15x haha
by the way guys im just asking which one do you prefer?
the sager NP8760 or alienware m17x?

im finding a 17 inch desktop replacement now haha -

Why you want to do that? Just upgrade the M15x gpu to ati 5870 then you good to go.
 -

im not really good in computers just love to play games
does dell offers service replacing the graphic card?
thats cool though -
The R2 once it gets the 5870's.
For now, I'd have to go with the Clevo. -

thewhitewizard Notebook Evangelist
Dell has still not officially announced 5870's on m15x(ALreadyy available with m17x-r2). But when they do, they will be able replace it with the new one.. THink they are expensive though...
Replacing it is not that difficult though... Probably inap could guide you through.. He's the man... -
Dell will NOT be offering the 5870 in the M15x. Your best bet would be to grab a 5870 from hemi or ebay and install yourself. I am just glad that the BIOS got support for it, really.
Sorry
      -

I'm itching to find out why dell isn't going to offer the 5870 on the m15x, maybe a new announcement or 15 inch replacement planned? Seems odd to add the microcode in the m15x bios release (3/31/2010) but not plan to offer the card officially through dell/alienware. Weird
      -
FWIW, it did not pass their QC and testing for thermal management.
While temps are ok for us, you have to remember that the factory in Xiamen doesn't use MX-3 on these systems.
So from Dell's standpoint, they didn't want to risk having issues and/or recalls because they have received enough bad press over the last year. -

Man, thats a shame. Yeah i guess then it really is a hardware problem! Ohwell thats what the warranty is for

and yea as for which one to choose...thats easy...the M17x without a doubt.
No Laptop gives you the build quality and outstanding aesthetics of an alienware. And with the M17x-R3 with 5870's in CF, Alienware is reclaiming its title as the MOST POWERFUL LAPTOP IN THE UNIVERSE. twin 5870s... man thats just insanity for a laptop...
Sager is solid also...but comes just short of what the M17x-r3 has to offer... -

R3?
More like R2.1 lol
/10char -

and hey can someone tell me some avrg FPS in common games using the 5870? ++rep for it fo sho

i'm still debatign whether to take the plunge -

lol yea i knwo its not called the r3...but everyone knows what im talking bout
      -

i wondering what they are actually going to put in the M15x it could be that were getting the mobile fermi
      -

hmm u know.. everyone's so disappointed with the 5870m not being offered in the m15x... that no1 stopped to think what alienware has up its sleeve for the m15x refresh ( they have to upgrade the gtx 260m soon! the m17x already got its gpu up'd twice!)
if they slap in a mobile fermi... all i gotta say is... its gonna start a nice Benchmarking war between 5870 owners

... wonder which one will prevail hehehe

      -

yea im wondering what they are going to do.

if nvidia is watching please don't botch mobile fermi with a previous desktop core gpu please
      -

Maybe upgrade it to a GTx 280m.
 -

You guys assume there will be another M15x.
      -

The Revelator Notebook Prophet
Makes perfect sense. -

Is anyone interested in a gpu replacement guide. if a few people are interested then i will make one.
J i'll try to get some bf2 fps for you tonite any res and setting you want me to use? -
thatd be great, i might buy one before summer. Yet I have no idea how to do it.. =(
 -

My M15x was just delivered...with no power cord. AC adapter, but no cord. Now I have to wait until next week to really dive in. Pretty pissed. I was pretty psyched with how it ran while on battery.
 -
That would be awesome if you would do that. Thinking about ordering a 5870 Myself, how easy is the CPU to replace by the way? It's a cakewalk on a desktop but this is my first laptop, but I was thinking of picking up a I7-720QM and just want to make sure it's a piece of cake before I order it.
 -

That sucks, I sure hope that doesn't happen to mine
Mine was delayed like crazy, but they offered to take another $75 off for the trouble, so I guess it's ok. I just want it to be delivered already.
      -

I think its the same motherboard so the i7 should directly replace the i3, right guys? Should be a cinch to replace (similar to a desktop).. Just make sure to use a good thermal paste and apply it properly

The AC cords are easy to pick up anyway right? Can buy them at any computing outlet. -

I've called a few places, and nobody carries separate power cords. I don't want to spend $100 when I already have the AC adapter.
 -

I also posted it in the benchmark thread. So 3DMark Vantage with stock settings with the 240 card:
CPU: 11277
GPU: 2172
Not sure what it means, but I don't think the 240 card does too well. (Good enough for me though
 )
      -

buy the adapter at best buy, then return it within 30days
 -
You might want to go for the i7 620M instead, it performs better on pretty much everything.
/me dies a little inside everytime he has to admit that...
      -

but the i7 720 is better in the long run
 -

i guess, though very few software can take advantage of 4 cores, and pretty much none of them works with 8..
 -
According to performance tests, the 17 620M is slightly better than the i7 720QM, except in tests where all cores can be utilised, whereby the i7 720QM beats the 620M.
Obviously, very few applications/games use all 4 cores, thus the short term benefits of opting for the i7 720QM are non-existent, but, in the long term, an i7 720QM would be the better choice. -

According to this site:
http://www.hardware.info/nl-NL/news/ymicmpqUwpmabZY/Nieuwe_DirectX_11_benchmark_Stone_Giant/
there is a new DirectX 11 benchmark out.
The piece is written in Dutch, but here is the translation:
The people of Fatshark in cooperation with BitSquid have developed a new DirectX 11 benchmark. The demo is based on BitSquid's soon to be released Tech engine and uses tessellation and advanced depth-of-field effects through the computer shader, that can be used in the DirectX 11 API. The benchmark is programmed in such a way the large amount of shaderunits of modern GPU's can be used optimally, and in addition it enables good scaling in CrossFire and SLI. The benchmark also supports stereoscopic 3D for nVidia's 3DVision technology.
The benchmark was developed for DirectX 11 video cards, but systems with DirectX 10 will also be able to run the benchmark. In that case, some of the features, such as tessellation, will be disabled. The benchmark has a size of 395MB and can be downloaded though the link below:

Heres a ''fancy'' montage I did to show the improvement from my 500Gb HDD to my 160Gb SSD!
